As we get closer to homecoming please remember OPSEC. Dates are never to be posted anywhere online until that information is officially released by the ship. This could effect their homecoming date and make them stay out longer. Please remove that post so this doesn't happen and be extra vigilant to keep this information confidential. We need to do our part to keep our sailors safe until their return!

For OPSEC purposes dates are NEVER to be posted. It can put or sailors/marines is unnecessary harm.

Got a call from my son (finally) on Saturday so now we're sure he made it to the Makin Island with no problems.  Of course, not speaking to him over the Christmas holiday was really nerve wracking for us, but now we are relieved.  Whew...

Anyone have any ideas how long it normally takes for mail to get there?  Just curious...   Thank you.

The USS makin island is a great ship. From who I have met this is a great group of guy's. The ship is bad ass too. He will love it.

All is not lost. Only a hand full of packages were lost at see. They retrieved so e and they had another shipment come in before Christmas. Many sailors did get a package but my heart goes out to those that did not. Merry Christmas and happy New year to all.

My son just left last weekend for the USS Makin Island.  Will be looking through the past posts to see if there is information on what to expect as a parent while he is there.  Merry Christmas to everyone!!!

I am one of the moderators for the MKI parents group on face book.  After we left Hong Kong the group page was being overwhelmed  with strange requests to join.

If anyone on this site is a parent with a child on the MKI and wants to join the group please private  message me and I will help you get onto the group.  If you do request PLEASE remind me that you are a member on this site .

I'm already on the secret group. I was just hoping there was another group here. Sometimes the posts they make frustrate me.
