Hi

My son Jon just joined the crew of the McCampbell three weeks ago.  Haven't heard from him but I see by some of your comments that it's hard for them to get e mail/texts/etc.  And probably to send them?  Any more info on this?  Jon's position is IC.

Hi Pat,
My son has been on the McCampbell since March and he likes it ok. Of course my son is a homeboy and he would rather be closer to home, but for the most part he says it's fine. My son doesn't have any problems getting emails or sending them. Once he gets his military email, he shouldn't have any problem getting them from you. He may not always be able to send them right back depending on how busy his job has him, but he will get your emails.
Thanks, that is good to know. I sent an e mail last week but haven't heard back yet. He discouraged us from sending them because he didn't think he could get them.
Hi Pat,
My daughter Samantha is a CTR3(SW). She has been on the McCampbell for over two years. She says it is a good ship. I hope your son will be happy there. I send all Sams packages to her FPO, Ap address. Her last mail call was delivered by helo.USS McCampbell has a website the address is listed.Welcome to our group! If there is anything I can help you with just let me know.
Best wishes,Cindy
Thanks Cindy. I will check out the website's address, and see if it is the same as the one the recruiter gave me.
Hi! yeah this is a really bad time of year to get much contact with them and when they are underway they tend to keep them very busy. He may be on cranking duty which is like mess deck duty and they work very long hours while doing this and they have to do it for 3 months usually when they first get on the ship. They do this then they get to do the job they went to school for. They tend to do it when they are underway. Daniel was on the ship for almost 5 months before he did his because they were at home port so it took that long b4 he went underway. Don't worry he will contact u as soon as he is able to. I have been sending packages to Dan about every 2-3 weeks with some things like top ramen soup, mac & cheese etc. I guess he is a little tired of Navy Sip food after all this time. I sent him some homemade salsa and some tortilla chips he said he shared them with the people he works with so they were gone in a flash.
I got a text lastweekend. Jon said they had been at sea for a month and just got into a port. It was brief but good to know he was ok. You were able to send food to him? How did you package the salsa to keep it alive until it got there? I am putting together a box now, but Jon didn't think food was a good idea because it would spoil before it got there, but I would think it would keep for a while.
