My son Joseph has been on the USS McCampbell since January 2010.  He is coming home tomorrow for 2 weeks leave :-) and I am so excited!  It's been over a year since I've seen him face to face.  Skype…Continue

HiMy son Jon just joined the crew of the McCampbell three weeks ago.  Haven't heard from him but I see by some of your comments that it's hard for them to get e mail/texts/etc.  And probably to send…Continue

Hello all ~  Spoke to my Joseph yesterday and they were getting ready to go out on the ship.  Has anyone had any contact with the McCampbell crew this morning? I am so worried and probably wont feel better until I hear my sailors voice.

My son Tanner is supposed to come home in the next couple days but he had a bad cold so he was not sure they would let him fly. Prayers are appreciated and I'm hoping by tomorrow (when he flies out) I will hear from him and that he will be feeling better. Take care!

Thanks for the information.  We worked with Southwest.  What is a military chit?

Hi all.  Happy New Year!

Jon did not make it home for Christmas.  Did Samantha fly military?  I think you don't need a passport for that.  We think that if you have orders to go somewhere you get priority on commercial flights, but if you are "on vacation" you need a passport. That is what we were repeatedly told.  I think you can fly military but if you are not an officer, you don't get priority and may be bumped.  We will try to get Jon to get a passport (it's up to him) so we can maybe see him next summer.  He has plenty of friends so I am sure he was not lonely over Christmas and I hope he gets adventuresome and sees some of Japan.

Hi Patricia, Can he get a passport there?  That's so tough. Sorry.

Jon just was told he got leave, for two weeks. However, he doesn't have a passport and the airlines said he can't fly commercially on just a military ID. Since he is not "under orders" he is technically on vacation. Do any of you have any experience with your kids getting home on leave? How did you do it? We are willing to fly him home, but can't do it.

Glad your sailor can come home. Mine will be home in January for a few days.  God bless you all and Merrry Christmas!   Lin

Is there someone on the ship who can help with banking/Navy Federal Credit Union problems? Have any of your kids needed to get help with managing their bank accounts (and their money?)
BTW, it was unnerving to see N and S Korea in the news, shooting at each other, today in the LA Times
