OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Catie, If you friend me, I'll send you my e-mail address. We can talk a little more securely that way.

Catie, Welcome to the US Navy. He'll get the full schedule when he joins Miami. Keep those suitcases packed. When my husband was in the Navy (surface), I had boxes that stayed packed for 18 months. We moved so often.

Did you say that you will not be living in Groton until May 2012? You might be living somewhere else by then. I can't to into more because of OPSEC. Have your husband check some future dates.

Catie, Be sure to join the USS Miami FRG (Family Readiness Group), either online at meetup.com or when you get to Groton. The base group is made up of wives and kids of the sailors, while us moms join in from afar through the online information.

Welcome aboard, Catie! My son joined the Miami in March and he's an MM. Hopefully your husband will meet Scott, aka Blackie, soon! Good luck to you in Groton. I haven't visited there yet but I'm looking forward to it for sure.

Welcome Catie. My son is a Nuke ET on the Miami, so your husband will meet Alex soon. If he hasn't already.
Are you living in Groton? I loved it there when I visited Alex after the last deployment.

I volunteered for the halfway bags too. I'm so glad for the FRG and enjoy their projects.

Laura, Glad you have joined us. Right now the FRG is putting together the Half Way Bags for the single guys. If any of you are interested, contact the FRG. I'm planning on doing one for Alex and one for another single sailor.

Ladies, Are you part of the Family Readiness Group for the USS MIAMI? Right now you can make calendar squares that are used during deployment. You pick a date (get it cleared first to make sure no one else has chosen it), make your square on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper and send it to the FRG with $7 per square or 2 for $10. Private mail me if you want the contact person you email. The FRG fundraisers help the sailors and their families.
