Debbie,

Thanks for the info! Our sailor wants to be Master of Arms but there were no openings when he went to GL for BC, he's still in BC, communicating with him is impossible. When we talked he said MA was no problem after he's in Pearl Harbor he needs to request shore duty and then, I quote "I'll tell you all about it after graduation". Then he talked about getting both things he asked for, he asked to be on a destroyer stationed at Pearl Harbor. We have no idea what A school, or what is job will be. He aced his DEP test and got bumped from E1 to E2 got his collar devices. That's what I know.

Julie,

Your sailor will need to check with the Chief of his division as soon as he reports to the ship as they have already pretty much finalized the list for the invitation request for the commissioning.  I am sure they make exceptions for those joining the ship later.  Just make sure he steps up and ask someone.  The commissioning is an important life moment for your sailor and you will most definetly want to be there.  Being a plank owner is an honor for each and every sailor that will bring the ship to life.  Have you read the books Seal of Honor and Lone Survivor?  If you haven't I would suggest putting them on your reading list.  Your Sailor should read them as well.  After reading the books you will be filled with pride that your Sailor was chosen to serve on this ship.  What is your Sailor's job?

Yankee Mom: Thanks for the "best guess", I hope you are right. If he's in NY for the commissioning my hubby and I want to be there. Do you need an invitation?

My SA called after BS 21 (PIR this Friday 7/13/12) said his A school was going to be at GL and then he will report to the Murphy in late August. I'm wondering if he will be in New York for the commissioning. Any ideas?

Welcome to all the new moms!  Glad our little group is growing.

Cathie...He may be going to Maine when he is finished with his school, can't imagine that they would send him to Hawaii in September, but we are talking about the Navy!  Never know what they have planned for our Sailors.  It gets easier as you go along.  Ask any questions you have and one of us will more than likely have some answers for you.  We are all here to help one another.

My son is a BM2 as well as a Master Helmsman (scarry!)  He has been in the Navy for a little over 5 years.  He Home Port was Pearl Harbor for 4 years prior to joining the Michael Murphy, he is anxious to get back on the island.

Hello Murphy Moms!!  I am sure we are all counting down the days to October!

I wanted to see how many of us would be interested in going to a taping of  The Rachael Ray show in October.  Of course, we would let dads go as well.  I requested a group of 20 tickets, no guarantee that I will get them.  If anyone is interested just let me know.

The next couple of months will be filled with excitment and some very long work hours for our Sailors as they take ownership of their ship.  Please keep all of them in your thoughts and prayers.  For those of them who have not had the experience of living aboard a ship it can be filled with much tension at times and does take some time to adjust to it.

Also if you know any other Murphy Moms please let them know about this group on Navy for Moms.
