Okay Ladies, time is going by quickly and many of us will be making a trip to New York soon!  So exciting!

I have been busy the past few weeks requesting "Letters of Greeting" to the crew of the ship from Governor's of all fifty states.  The letters have started coming in (with help from one of my associates!), they are impressive.  Once I have the letters I will put them into some kind of book form to be presented to the officers and crew of the ship.

A few of us crazy navy moms thought it would be nice to also request a "Letter of Greeting" from our Sailor's hometown Mayor.  Please join us in this venture as I will add these letters to the presentation book as well.  If you would like more info or a copy of a letter that you could use to request the letter PM me with your email address and I will send it to you.

The Family Readiness Group has put this on their facebook page as well to help us get as many letters as we can for our Sailors.

If you can not make it to the commissioning but would like to send your sailor a card or special letter for that day if you want to send it to me I will take those to the ship as well so they can be delivered to your sailor on the day of commissioning.

Congrats to your son Cathy!  He is joining a fantastic crew.  I know you will enjoy his time at home.

Nancy...PM me if you for sure want to use those quilt blocks and the fabric so I can get them in the mail to you ASAP.

It will get worked out, just anxious for him to come home for a little while.Well if your son is in the same field my son is going to be in It could be him Ha!!, That would be cool if he is his sponsor!!!!! Thanks again for everything,It is sure nice to talk to a mom that has gone thought all of this stuff.

Nancy: He is put on hold  cause he has not heard from a sponsor He's order are to go to Maine ,then in October go to Hawaii on the Murphy. He has e-mailed his sponsor at least 5 time & no response, I hope someone In Great Lakes  will Help Him. Maybe they can find him another sponsor? They won't let him come home till this gets solved any suggestions, I can tell him?

Are we getting excited or what???

I have requested the letters from all fifty states and may put in a second request by mid August to the Govenor's I have not had a response from yet.

I don't think I want to do Senators, I think the Governor's letters will make enough of a statement.

I will speak with the omsbudman and the FRG to help us pass the word along about the hometown Mayor letters.

How about the today show on Friday morning?

Another idea?  Anyone interested in photo buttons of your sailor to wear for the commissioning?

Nancy, a quilt is an awesome idea.  I have some Navy themed quilt blocks that I got off of ebay when my mom was going to make our sailor a quilt but they were not exactly what we wanted once I got them.  I will look for them tonight and send you a picutre of them.  I also have quite a bit of US Navy fabric, I don't know if I have enough for a backing or not though.  It might be best to use a solid color backing so that all of the sailors could sign the back of the quilt.  Would you have enough time to do that though before the commissioning?  My mom has made three navy quilts, one is a sampler that is beautiful, our sailor won't even take it on the ship for fear that it will disappear.  Then she made him one for his rack on the ship and made my husband one out of the left over scraps.  Lots of work.

Okay Ladies.....I have started a project (scarry).  I have contacted the Governor's office of all Fifty States, the offices of President Obama, Former Presidents Clinton and Bush, requesting "Letters of Recognition" for our Sailors in honor of the commissioning of The USS Michael Murphy.  I am getting a very good response, in a weeks time I have already received eleven documents.  Once I have all of the documents in hand I will put them in book form to be presented to the ship.

Here is another thought.....what would you think about requesting a letter from the Mayor of your sailor's hometown to be included?  Let me know your thoughts as I could contact the omsbudman to pass the info along to more of the sailors wives and families.

Getting anxious for our New York trip!
