My son recently joined the crew of the Milius less than a month ago after being on the USS Boxer a few years and a recent deployment this past Sept and now on his second one. I am getting a care pkg ready for him and it brings back a lot of memories when I was a Navy wife and would send them to my husband. I enjoy doing it special for him with his favorite things and goodies....

Thank you for the information. Very helpful! Might just send packages since the letters seem to take a bit longer!

Wondering if anyone can tell me how often you send packages to the ship. This is my son's first deployment. I sent a package last week and would like to have him receive them regularly but not sure how to space them out. Any advice?

Hi Barbarajean thanks for saying hello.  I already feel better my husband keeps saying I am crazy for worrying about what is happening.  I like you have been praying daily for all of them.  I also pray for all of us! What does your son do on the ship, I find the workings of the ship interesting.

Joe joined the ship this past August, right before the Friends & Family cruise.  We are already planning to go to San Diego for the homecoming.  I agree it will be great to have someone going through the same thing.  Maybe a few more will pop on and say hello.  I am hoping to get an email for Joe soon but I know is work schedule is tuff so I will just be patient.

Irene my son is an Operations Specialist so they may work in the same general area.  I am on the facebook page which has been wonderful but this site was my savior during BC so I thought I would reach out.  I know the email issues have been on & off.  I have sent a couple emails but have not heard anything from my son yet.  I am hoping that once life adjusts into the ships routing I will hear more from him.  He has not suspended his cell phone service yet is waiting until they are in the last US port.  Thanks for saying hello I did accept your friend request and I guess I will be see you on facebook also.  How long has your son been in the Navy, mine has only been in since March so I am still having a lot of "firsts"  I was so happy he got to be home for Christmas, we really weren't expecting it.  I agree all this Strait of Hormuz stuff has me a bit on edge also.

Wondering if anyone is out there on this current deployment.  This is my son's first deployment and I was just wondering what to expect?

My daughter is on the Milius this is her 2nd trip out. I have been invited on the Tiger Cruise. Is ther any other familes in Alaska?
Comment by Katie *USS Milius Wife* on September 12, 2010 at 8:33am
For the TIGER Cruise you just have to email your sailor and ask him to sign you up. THe last day for him to put your name down is the 15th. My husband has volunteered to help do some of the activities on the ship. It should be pretty neat. Cost of airfare though is scaring me since his family is flying from Virginia to Hawaii.
