When did you hear from your sailor?

Hi, my sailor left Norfolk a week ago for the Nitze, and while I was hoping that I'd hear that he got to the ship safely... looks like that's not the way it's done. I'm assuming no news is good news,…Continue

It is so good to "meet up with you" since our sons will be on the same ship!  How long after he left did you hear from him to let you know he was there and ok?

My son left for Bootcamp on 9-1-11.  He was in Groton for STS but is now changing rates.  He is going in undesignated.  He is actually happy to be going on the ship.  He didn't tell me this but I think that the further he got into subs the more he wasn't so sure subs was for him.  He is, of course, a little nervous as he has never been outside of the United States but he is also very excited about going on the ship.

Hello Diana, My son has been on the ship a few days now.  He has connected  with us through Facebook and email.  The nitze has a facebook page that they update pretty regular.  I am here to support you.  Was you son on a different ship before this one?   Mine was, he says he likes the Nitze way better than the big one he was on before.  What is your sons rate?  How long has he been a sailor?

Does anyone know if they have e-mail access or cell phone access on the ship?  Is there anyway we can sign up for weekly or monthly e-mails letting us know how things are going on the ship?  I have no idea and this is all new to me.

jakesmom,  I hope you finally heard from your son!  I will be going through the same thing in about a week.  So happy to have him home visiting but then he is leaving for the ship and I'm not sure when I will see him again.

Hi everyone, I just found out my son will be joining the Nitze in about two weeks.  How do your sailors like it?  My son is transferring rates.

Good Morning all,

I am having a rough morning.  Jake flew out to meet the ship last night and I am carrying my phone around like a new born waiting to hear that he landed safely.  He is happy to be joining a smaller ship, he has been with the Bataan for the last year.  We have heard good things about the moral on the smaller ships being better because they port more often.  I am a little freaked out about the lack of Moms on this site.  The Bataans page had tons of Moms, this one has 5?  I am feeling pretty alone at the moment.  His Dad doesnt understand why I break down every time he leaves our shores.
