My son has arrived in Norfolk on Friday night......He is suppose to be talking to someone today but has been told that he is stationed on the USS Ponce........I'm assuming that he is probably going to be going thru the same ordeal that your son did......or similar. He looks at it as one big adventure....I look at it as another gray hair forming on my head!  VERY Stressful! You must be somewhat relieved now that he is with the ship and not still in Bahrain. I continue to pray for all of our sailors every day!

I love this group.  I look forward everyday to read new posts.  Awesome ladies.  For those of us who are experiencing the first deployment our sons are on, it's hard to describe the comfort of hearing from all the moms.  Thank you all so much.

gmaof6 my son was in Bahrain for a week, he was in a hotel. He just left there this weekend to meet the ship. We haven't heard from him since he called Friday to tell you he was finally leaving Bahrain. He was in Norfolk less than a week also.  He called me on Monday and left on Tuesday.   I know what you mean by hard to accept, this has been the hardest week.  We didn't have time to figure out anything, I am glad that I found this group.  They have been very helpful.  My son said there wasn't room on the base for them and they were in a hotel down the street.  There is also a street there with several American restaurants.  He was there when the rioting was so bad so you can imagine my anxiety.

Theresa, thank you for the prayers.  Just was kind of hard to accept such a sudden deployment, he just arrived in Norfolk on Saturday and was given order to deploy on Tuesday, left on Thursday.

Very confused, my grandson was just sent to Bahrain yesterday to meet USS Ponce, first deployment. From what I've read on this group it seems that this ship will be returning to Norfolk sometime soon?  Would they have sent him all the way there just to return to Virginia?  New to the Navy, learning quickly that you have no control and things can change just as quickly.  Also can't understand why they would charge a sailor to stay on the base?????????

Woo hoo I just heard from my son, they are flying out in the morning to go to the ship.  I think they are dreading it because they have laid around and now they are going to have to start working.

I hear from Doug pretty often and then all of a sudden I don't hear from him for several days but I know how busy and tired they all are and I continue to email him daily.  He, occasionally is able to post things on Facebook.  We all really enjoy that too.  There is nothing like keeping in touch and knowing our sons and daughters are doing well and are safe.  It won't be long now until they are back in Norfolk.  At least they are on the backside of this deployment.

My son was bad about contacting us at first, but after about month or so I started getting more emails. We send him an email everyday telling him what our day was like or local things going on, messages from his friends, etc. His emails don't always say a lot, but he enjoys still being in the loop of our day to day lives. We send pictures to him too. Now when we don't get a reply we know that he is working crazy shifts or their not able to get on the internet. My profile picture was our Christmas present from him this year and I LOVE IT!!!
