Kim F - our son will join the USS Roosevelt in a month or so. He has plans to fly to ship ASAP after Mar. 28 decom of his present assignment on USS RG Bradley also in Mayport. Yesterday he heard he may go to a month long school before going to the ship. Either way he should be there by mid April or mid May. He is IT2 (E5), entered Navy Aug. 2011. His dad and I live about 25 miles north of Atlanta, GA and we are both retired. We both lost our mates a number of years ago and have now been together the last 8 years (blended family of 7 children (44, 41, 39, 37, 36, 25, and 21 yrs. old). Most live very near us; one is in Cape Cod, one about to move to Washington state, and then the youngest is our son in the Navy. We also have 7 grandchildren (18, 17, 11, 10, 9, 4, and 8 months). I am retired teacher (taught K, 2nd, Spec. Ed Interrelated Resource and 5 yrs. of art to 890+ students on a 7 day rotation). My husband was an accountant and tax advisor/consultant before he retired. He is from New England, CT. I have lived in Maryland and Kansas but Atlanta is my home. I would love to make friends with many wives, parents, family of sailors on the USS Roosevelt. I did that when he was deployed the last time and it is very supporting and helpful when they are at sea for such an extended time. Don't think anyone has posted on here since ship left but I do think they have been in port somewhere because I saw some pics one of the guys sent his wife; he had made them in a church and a palace. I'll invite you to be friend and then perhaps share more privately. If any other sailor's family members are out there, I'd love to hear from you as well. Haven't used this site in a while, may be a little rusty but I'll get the gist of it again in a day or so. Hope to hear from you.
Hello all. My son is to be on the Roosevelt. I'd love to ask a question of someone who has some information about what sailors can take on the ship for their rack. Please contact me at kc135lady@aol.com. Thanks!
Yes, thank you. I have not been on as much as I just have experienced two recent deaths in my family. My son is in Jacksonville. Thank goodness because my brother passed away unexpected recently and he was able to come home. The Navy was wonderful during this time. I am very lucky to live on a canal that leads to the Gulf. My husband loves living on the water and this is where my son gets it from. It has been raining for two days here now with no sign of ending. Ready for the sunshine again. I do not know anything about deployment as this will be my first experience with it. It is wonderful to be able to plug into this site as it helps me learn and meet many wonderful people.
My son is in Norfolk, Virginia and I'm assuming from what you said that your son is in Jacksonville. I'm wondering if they would deploy 2 vessels with the same name at the same time....I guess it wouldn't surprise me. Very humid here today after 3 nights of heavy storms & rains. We have a lake now in our backyard that is nearly 2 feet deep & ducks on the pond. It's not as fun as the ocean, but it's probably as close to ocean living as I can get in Minnesota! Hope you're doing well, eljac913!
