Thanks for your help! I am going to show his fiancee how to get to this site, so she can get on the "future brides" group, and figure things out.
Thanks mom22sailors!
Here is another question I don't know yet--- how does time off work, exactly? My sailor just got 8 days at Christmas, and he says they get 2 weeks in the month before a deployment...
What do they get AFTER a deployment? And is there a time frame they have to take any leave in?
(And I get that this is the all conditional, and the Navy loves to be unpredicatable, and we can control NOTHING... but.....)
If they return in spring of 2013, and the wedding is planned in August of 2013, how would he know that he will get the time off? I know he would request it, but how likely is it that they get this, in the time frame requested? Or is there a certain time frame after returning -- say withing 60 days, that he would be more likely to get his request for leave granted?
Congratulations! I didn't go through this, nor do I count myself and expert in military issues, but.... if the ship deploys sometime in August, it should return again sometime in April if all goes like it did last time. So, a summer 2013 wedding should be doable. They do have a way of changing plans so you may want to hold off on exact dates as long as you can! Hope that is a litte helpful.
Hello everyone. I wrote in early December when my son first got his orders for the USS Rushmore. He was home for Christmas, and arrived in San Diego last week. The big news is he got engaged on Christmas! We are all thrilled, but how does one go about planning for a wedding when one member is in the service? They are thinking summer of 2013, but how do they know if they will have leave, or even be in port, and all that? Because my son just got to San Diego, and so many people were off for the holidays, he hasn't asked any questions yet. I told his fiance I would check here. Any advice out there? Anyone else do through this?
Hi everyone. Just joined the group and wanted to introduce myself. My son just got to the Rushmore about 2 months ago straight out of A school. I'm a former sailor and my other son just left for bootcamp today also! I'm looking forward to keeping up on our sailors' info and talking with other families, especially during their deployment.
That is awesome, glad to hear it!
Nice to see some comments coming through here. I didn't have the advantage of knowing of this site prior to the last deployment. I look forward to staying in touch here for this next one coming up. My son is planning on coming home for a bit during the Holidays. I couldn't be happier! Is anyone else expecting their family home? Also, does anyone know yet if there might be another Tiger Cruise? Take Care, everyone!
Hmmm... any idea where they deploy to in August? And, is that something we can ask/talk about on here?
Hello everyone. I am new here. My son just got his orders, and will be headed to the USS Rushmore after a visit home for Christmas. He is arriving as an undesignated seaman, so I have no idea what is in store for him. I will be reading back posts from here trying to get caught up. Happy to "meet" you all!
