Erica and Tia –   Please let our families know the following:

There is limited communication off the ship due to a helicopter crash that occurred earlier today on one of the other DDG’s that’s operating with the NIMITZ Carrier Strike Group.
None of SHOUP’s crew members, to include Air Department personnel, were onboard the helicopter.
Due to the limited communications, crew members can receive emails but are unable to send/respond to emails.
Also, the phone lines have been secured.
When I am able to return communications to normal, I will.

Hey Em...congrats on 39 years! We will do fine...we live in Santee which is a suburb of San Diego so no worries about weather. I just dread the moving part lol!

Chels said that your daughter is being really, REALLY good to her during this illness that she has!  Thank her for me, and THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.

I got a short, 2 sentence email from Chels.  She's feeling slightly better, they have her on some kind of medicine that she's not familiar with.  Thank you to everyone that had prayers and positive thoughts for my daughter.  Also for the info. that you were able to share with me.  I'm so appreciative.

Mono is not contagious unless saliva is shared. So not worries about a quarantine. Main symptoms would be swollen lymph nodes and a swollen spleen along with fever and fatigue. She should probably be sent to a ship with an experienced physician. Sounds like a viral infection but the only way to know for sure would be a white blood cell count. I'll say a prayer for her tonight. Tell her to stay hydrated best she can.

this doesn't give me peace of mind that there's not a real doctor on board...she needs professional, medical help.
