Hi Lynne,

The only way to send a pkg to the ship is thru US mail. (that I know of)  They have special "proiriy" boxes stamped with "AMERICA SUPPORTS YOU...OUR MILITARY MEN & WOMEN"...it's a flat rate no matter how much it weighs.  I think it's about $14 then tax.

hope this helps,

     Vanessa

Does anyone have an idea of what it costs to ship a package to the ship and what is the best way...DHL or FedEx or UPS or USPS?

A gift certificate to his favorite pub/restaurant? Or if you live in area...an IOU? a goofy calendar marking days backward til they are due home? Gosh...hard to say...world market has cool and unusual things which can be fun...

I hope they do get some time off too. Yep. I'm going to get a box out to him this week. Do you or any of you moms have any good ideas for items to put in care packs? I'd like to send him something different than last time.

Glad you heard from him! Yeah...I am sure they are counting down the days until they return. And hopefully they get some decent time off to relax. Hard to say though...seems like everything changes. That much o/t is horrible...a nice box of treats will help;)

Good morning Shoup moms!

My son called from the ship this morning. Haven't talked to him in quite awhile. He's so disgruntled. I'm sure glad they will be headed home soon. He's a cook and they've been having him work about 30 hours a week overtime. I think he's pretty worn out and tired of being on the ship. He did mention they'll be in Hawaii for 5 days in September. I hope that works out. I think they all need something to look forward to. Don't know about your sailors, but my son has been pretty frustrated with this deployment. I wish I knew how to encourage him? I am working on a goody box. Hopefully that will help.

Thanks for the good info. What is the title of the official frg fb group? Haven't seen anything on that.

You are a fountain of information. I didn't see the frg info yet. Wonder how many times a day we have to go up and down the ladders...I hate them...lol! Definitely can do them but I'm slow and would hate to hold people up....or embarrass my daughter...;) I understand it's an experience of a lifetime so hoping to go.

Thanks for additional info Kittythief. I think they have to get a same sex sponsor because of rack requirements. In my case my daughter is on board but if I bring a grandson she will have to get male sponsor for him. I would think we should be getting official information about the cruise in the near future IF it's happening. Hope so anyhow;).

Can you wise ones tell us what exactly is a tiger cruise? Here are some questions I have:

1) Is it different than a family cruise? If so, How?

2) Is it usually only one person or multiple people?

3) Where do the guests sleep? Do they share their quarters with the sailor or with other guest?

4) What if you arrive on the day of departure and the ship has been delayed in its departure? Can you stay on the ship during the delay?

5) I understand there are medical forms to fill out?

Can somebody give us how a previous one went?

Thanks!
