thank you SHARPIE'S MOM, for understanding...

I think we all have a great deal of confidence and pride in our Sailors. That doesn't mean that we can't have a little fear from time to time. Perhaps it's more the fear of the unknown. I had not been on NFMs for some time. I needed to come back for support (my daughter is the one that fell 23' from a ladder, recovering now back "home"). I feel like I know some of her shipmates from our conversations and we are all the Shoup family. I got to meet some of them in July. We all handle things differently and require different types & levels of support. Sometimes we "vent" without caution because we know that someone who truly cares is listening and understands our frustration. I pray for the safety & guidance of our Sailors every day. I know we all do.

joirenee, You may be referring to me about how concerned I was the other day when I talked to my daughter...she had relayed some stressing info. that maybe she shouldn't have reveled.  It was truly out of the ordinary for her to convey fear or stress .  It alarmed me and I went straight to NFM's for support and understanding.  I'm sorry if anyone is thinking that I was drumming up drama or starting rumors.  It's also disheartening to hear that out of my worry I may be lacking faith in our sailors or this command.  This couldn't be further from the truth.  I have total faith in them...what I DON'T have faith in is unstable, war torn countries/or their leaders that think they have something to prove and have no problem going against United Nations sanctions.  It makes our entire US military vulnerable, not just the Navy or our USS Shoup.  I don't have the luxury of a nearby former Navy or Military family member that can calm my fears and reassure me, I have Navy for Moms.  So , with this, I will continue to pray a hedge of God's protection around the Shoup until they are safely returned to Everett, and know that all the hard work and training that they've had will surely pay off.  And again, a thousand apologies if I cause any of you any undo stress or worry, that was surly not my intention.

Wasn't me I assure you! My daughter keeps me pretty well informed and she has done nothing but try to put my feats to rest which I was trying to share. This group is godsend to me also. I think newsletter kitty thief shared said it best...believe in no rumors and unless it comes from co, xo, or upper command they are rumors only. Hopefully Kttythief keeps sharing but also looked like maybe we can sign up...don't know but going to try it. All of us just need to take deep breath and believe in our sailors and navy, they will be fine:)!

I have a problem, well sort of.  When I read from (I believe spyder013?) about our sailors being in harm's way I was freaked out. Let me preface that with I am a sane logical intelligent mom, proud of her son in the Navy and not unaware of the dangers out there. I also have an ex-navy man as my husband. But I also have a Navy son that does not talk to me very often, please understand we have a wonderful relationship it is just that he doesn't contact me very often as he was a little older going into the Navy and had already started his adult life. This is why I love so much this website and the one on facebook with pictures from the ship, it keeps me informed.

Anyway, I guess I am asking for those who have possible scary knowledge coming from our Navy girls and boys to consider the audience--I was soooo upset from your post but, thankfully I had a navy man to put my fears to rest, but what of those Moms who do not? Thankfully my husband put the fears in perspective for me--as he had been to that very port in Japan.  That the port was as big as our San Deigo, that very very many ships of all nations are always there. That Iran does not have the capability to reach there and, even if they did, They would hit Israel first which is much closer than a Japanese port, and they certainly would not target one destroyer. Even North Korea, which is closer, would not hit a seaport that includes nations they have no problem with. Also, since the suicide attacks on our ships many many years ago, our ships come with weapons to counter this. Now is the threat Zero? No, but no more than in any other major highly industrial friendly seaport. Even when they travel to meet up with their carrier assuming they travel all by themselves in the ocean, they have more fire power and weapons that most ships they will meet.

I guess what I am asking is to be aware of many moms that are hungrily attached to this site for any information about their sons and daughters and what a emotional rollercoaster you put them in. Yes, tell us but perhaps already give us some hope to hang onto when you say these things, okay?

I do thank you for the information, I just come here for assurance not for fear.

My thoughts and prayers are with all our sailors.  It is terrifying that they may be in harms way, but I too have confidence in our sailors training and technology.
