confused...if they leave their current location, aren't they moving closer?  I wish my dear son would email..

Ok...that's definitely better and also what I've heard ...thanks for clarification :)

When I stated earlier that they were "steaming independently" , I meant from when they originally left Everett.  And that was a term that I'm used to hearing from Chels because they haven't joined their strike group yet.  The aircraft carrier (the Nimitz) that they guard (and is a part of their strike group), hasn't left the US yet..still getting repairs.

Hi All,

I didn't mean to insinuate that they are underway...they are still in Port.  This will be their last weekend in Japan.

They are underway? Not from what I was told earlier today. If so, that is very concerning and more so if not ready. Hopefully we get new info today to put our minds at ease...prayers for all!

The Shoup is steaming independently right now.  They don't have the protection (or numbers) of their strike group yet.  My daughter is a fiercly confident sailor whose known for bragging about "who would ever have the nerve to mess with a US Navy destroyer?"  To read her emails tonight and realize that they are in a desperate rush to change locations whether the repairs are 100% remedied or not is concerning.  They must feel like a target. I have complete faith in their lastest technology to thwart an attack, along with the utmost faith is this command and our sailors.  To read the stress that she and her shipmates are under was new for me, because to me, she's OVERLY confident most of the time.  And that worries me a great deal, but it doesn't rob me of having faith in them.

Absolutely not heard, doesn't sound good though. Hopefully someone who really knows joins in and gives us answers
