Hello again. Realized I called u sarah, but that's daughter I think....my bad! Anyhow, can she find a roommate and share expenses on an apt? Believe they can live off ship, just have to afford it. Lots of apts for decent rent though. Good luck to you both....just know she will be fine but its hard when we aren't there to give hugs, etc.

Hi sarah! My dau is also on Shoup and now that things appear to be moving forward thinking it will be a lot better for all of them! I don't know other answers to yer questions though! Think all we can do is support them and see them when we can;-)!

My daughter is an E-2 and went in undes. She says it will be a whole year before she can strike for a different rate. She is on the USS Shoup in Everett, Washington.  She is really homesick and depresses. Why does she have to wait a whole year to claim a different job? Is there anything she can do to better her situation? She has to live on the ship, and cannot get into the barracks for 90 days. I think she feels displaced.

Wow, that has got to be hard on parents and sailors.  I am not sure when my daughter will deploy. Do they use the ships computer to email, or their own laptop?

Comment by Tmon on April 17, 2012 at 11:06am

Last deployment was about 6 months.

How long do they usually go out?

Frustrating for u! Wish he would get to Shoup sooner, but guess this is what the Navy chose. Eventually he will get there though;-).

Yep, I think so.  Do they go to the Internet Cafe then? Is your transfer date in August?  Thinking it was you, but maybe not. :)

They cannot text from their phones though, can they?
