A 27 year old sailor assigned to the Spruance has been injured in an assault and taken to the hospital in Portland.  I live fairly nearby-- possibly able to offer support if needed.  Stay safe all.

Has anyone gotten anything official yet --- I asked my son & he hasn't & as they are getting ready to move to living on the ship -- it's dropped I'm sure.  I think I may secure lodging on my own just in case this doesn't come thru.  Would hate to get down there & not have a spot to stay.  Can always cancel the hotel reservations. I'm sure we will all be easy to spot with the big smiles on our faces that we get to see our family members.

Thanks Karyn ---- My son's name is John.  We are going for the town house too as the value seemed the best and I know my son wants a place to stay off the ship until we get there.  Would love to meet up too.  I'm sure we'll all plan as we get closer.

My son has been in Bath, ME since mid April.  He graduated from NOCS in March. My son signed up for a condo at a good rate thru the head of the dept. for the Key West commissioning.  Finalized info is to be out this week last we heard.  The Spruance is going to be in Key West 9/23 & leaves 10/3. The commissioning is 10/1 as you have all said.  Should be fun. Got to see the USS Spruance from across the river when I visited my son a couple of weeks ago in Bath, Me. Neat little town & Brunswick where he's housed on the Naval Air Sation is quaint.

Hi there,
My son just found out the USS Spruance will be his ship. I was surprised to read that it is brand new. I hope I get a chance to see it. He is being stationed in Norfolk though, not San Diego. Have they changed the home port for this ship?
