Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

There is WiFi on the ship, though it was out for a while last week and in order to get on line they had to go off the ship and to some place on the base itself. But that has all been worked out now. I don't know how often they go out on maneuvers, they don't get much notice and can't give any details out. There is something coming up in a couple of months, but that's all I know.

How often does the ship leave the port to visit south asia countries?

MisYu2, my understanding is that they have to get through certain qualifications once they arrive on the ship. Once they have passed all the quals, they can put their name on the waiting list for housing on base. In the mean time, they live on the ship.

Hi Leah, I appreciate your response. My son just had his PIR on 2/11/2011. He is now in A school in GL. I don't know his rate. How do I find out? He is still undesigned yet. When did your son go to Tortuga? What does your son do on the ship? Are they allowed to live in a house on the base instead of the ship? - Michelle

Hi, my son is going to USS Tortuga next month. I am looking for air ticket to see him in summer. Does anyone know what is the closest airport to Sasebo, Japan?
