I don't know anything about their return to Japan, but I got a text this AM-back in Phillipines. Does anyone know if they are allowed rack curtains on the ship. Got some info from another site and was wondering? My daughter is having trouble sleeping and I thought it might help but apparently they are not allowed on all ships.
Has anyone heard when the Tortuga homecoming is to be. I know we're not supposed to give exact dates due to security so just an estimate week would be good. If anyone knows you can message me.I got a quick e-mail this past week, Wed. or Thurs. I believe but he didnt tell me where he was or anything about when they are coming back to Japan.
Hi all, Thanks for the responses regarding methods of communication earlier this month, and thanks BLM for the infor on phone cards. Think that will be part of my sailors 21st b-day present!
I found my answer on another site:
You can order the ship-to-shore cards on line and have them sent to your sailor. https://shop.aafes.com/scs/info/faq_sts.aspx is the link. They work on board the ship, and you can add minutes to them if you know the card # and the 800 number to call. I tried sending AT&T calling cards from somewhere else, but they didn't work on the ship.
I just ordered some and let you know if they were OK for her
Got a 20 minute call at 2:30 am my time yesterday morning. They are out at sea somewhere. She asked for ATT phone cards-says marines get them before she has a chance-are there any particular cards I should be looking for?
i got a one line text-in the Phillippines-that's it-nothing else, no I love you, no the weather's fine, no pictures--just one line. oh well, I'll take what I can get LOL
Welcome Natesmom,
our son has been on the Tortuga a little over a year now, we communicate mostly via skype calls, when that doesn't work, which is rare, he will try FB message and in desparate measures, he will call direct using his japan cell. While underway, it is always e-mail and that is pretty reliable, it just takes getting used to a delayed response for our kids. Our son is amazing at keeping in touch, so when I don't hear from him, I know it's because he is not able to communicate at the time...you will learn that. Best wishes to your sailor and you...we are all here for each other.
There is also a N4M JapanMoms page that most of us are on more than here, if you would like to join that one also, they are a GREAT group of women,
Hi natesmom. My son is on the Tortuga also. He has a lap top so when in port in Sasebo he Skypes me sometimes once a week, if possible. When out, like they are now I might get an occasional e-mail. When they first got to Guam a few weeks ago he called me from the USO on that base there (I think). It was late and USO was about to close so only talked about 5-10 min. THen I think it was last Mon. or Tues. he tried to Skype me and I want at home. I had left my computer on, logged in and had went somewhere. I came back and seen where he had attempted to get me to answer.:(
