Thank you Ellen. I found a Best Western that I guess is by the waterfront with a good price for a family room with kitchenette! I guess it would be off-season. I hadn't thought about that! I didn't realize it was a 30 minute drive -- when I asked the reservation guy he said it was "just down the road!" Hah! Oh well, good price, good reviews on the internet. My son said he thought he would get three days off when they arrive and could stay with us! But, I didn't think about a duty day happening when they come in. I guess that makes sense that some have to stay on board. Ugh! That would be so hard for all families and sailors!
We will arive two days before their arrival date so that we can make it for the family party the day before. We are flying from California so want to leave extra time in case of weather delays. I'm so excited now that I have made hotel reservations! Thought about waiting until October for flights in case of a change?
Thanks for the info Ellen. I found the page i just didn't know if others knew about it. There are a lot of pictures being posted with Sailors. It always does my heart good to see a picture of my son and what types of activities he may be involved with.
I did email the truxtunfrg and am waiting for a reply. Since my son thinks he will get leave shortly after the ship gets back I don't know if we'll go out for the homecoming, but I think it would be awesome. If he doesn't get leave for awhile we probably will go to the homecoming and take his car out to him. If he gets leave we'll drive out with him and fly home. That way we can spend a little more time with him and see the base.
The Navy Lodge would be your best bet since it's less than a mile from the base and has kitchenettes, but you may need your son to check you in. Do you know how early you're arriving? You could always stay somewhere else the night before and then switch to the Navy Lodge after homecoming.
A lot of the hotels at the oceanfront have kitchenettes. It's about a 30 minute drive, but the rates will also be lower since it's off season. Steer clear of the hotels on Northhampton, and the hotel airports at Northhampton and Military Hwy. I haven't had personal problems there, but have seen all bad reviews, both online and from people who stayed there.
I hope your son is able to stay over with you! I'm hoping so hard that homecoming day is not my husband's duty day!
Ellen, thank you! I know...we are getting excited. Our son has never been away from the family for this long! Guess we need to get used it. I'm a planner but am learning that we can't make long-range plans anymore! I will wait until November and hopefully more info will come our way.
Good luck with the house hunting. That has to be so frustrating, but exciting too.
