JB- I am so glad you took pictures!  This is my son's first deployment and we were so sad that we couldn't afford to go out for the departure.  We are saving for the homecoming!  We live in California, and his sister would want to come too, so...can't make everything!  But, we really miss him.

Wow, how exciting.  I will say a prayer that he makes it.  This is my son's first deployment.  He just graduated bootcamp in Jan, and A school in April.  I was surprised how quickly things went.  So far he is enjoying it which makes me feel at ease. Just sad because he is my baby and only 19.  Time for this Mom to cut her apron strings and let her baby boy become a man.  Just so hard, he and I have been very very close his entire life.  So not only did I feel like I lost my son but I also lost one of my best friends cause he has been there for me when times have been really tough for me.  Oh the bond between a Mother/Son.

My son is in the weapons department - or something like that .  I met JB on the pier this morning.  She took awesome pictures, and was so nice.  Loved meeting you JB.   I loved seeing the crew of the Truxtun leave.  They looked happy, excited, and relaxed.

Karen: my son is an Engineman/Fireman Apprentice. Toyota what job is your son? Is this the first time for deployment for either of you ladies?

Karen,  Oh I totally understand.  What is your son's job?

Good Evening all,

My son will be leaving on Saturday May 7th for the USS Truxtun.  Anyone out there have someone who will be on this ship.

My son is a GSE.  And, yes, I'm wondering about how much contact we will get when the time comes, and how we will find out about the homecoming!  We live in California and want to fly back for that!!

Welcome, Rebecca! I hope your son enjoys his time aboard the Truxtun- he got there at a busy time! What is his rate? My husband is an FC. My daughter and I are in the middle of a move to Missouri so I can finish my degree. With the amount of time the ship will be gone it seems like the best time to squeeze it in. We'll move back to Virginia at the end of this year after they come home from deployment. Did everyone get to see their sailor over one of the leave periods? Also, if anyone is on facebook join the Truxtun Ombudsman page by just searching that. Hope everyone is staying warm wherever you are located!
