My AO son is a member of VFA-25.  Anybody else active here?  Hello :)

Hi Christa!  You can send him anything that wont spoil or melt. I have a great website to order Jerky from if he likes that, they give a special military discount. I send my son his favorites: cookies, candy, pretzels, pringles, microwave popcorn, marshmellows, jerky, pretzels, all his favorites!  I'm glad he says he is doing well. Feel free to send me a pm if you need anything else!

Hi, everyone.  I just received an email from my son!  He is doing well and says that life on the ship is not bad.  (He's been on the ship for a week so far.)  He has asked for snacks - but was not specific.  Any thoughts or ideas on what would be good to include in his first care package??

Hi Ladies! Just stopping in to see how you all are doing.  January is almost done, one month closer to having all our guys back home with us!

Just stopping in to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!  I hear some of our guys have started to get packages...I hope that they all get their goodies !!

Enjoy your time with him home!  We did our holidays in October when he was here before they left, it seemed odd to alot of people then, but it wasn't to us. Although, I must say that now I'm pretty much over that huge tree in my living room....lol....

Thanks Laura and Nalashome!  I really appreciate the warm welcome and all of the information.  We are planning to celebrate Christmas with our son over the 10 days that he will be home (before reporting to the squadron).  But I know that we will want to send him care packages.  I definitely don't want him to think we have forgotten about him!

Thanks Rhonda, but we are all in this "boat" together....you help me so much too!

Christa, once he gets to the squadron let me know, and I will get you the information for the squadron ombuds and the ship ombuds. Those emails sometimes can be comforting as well.

My NavyDude, as I refer to him, got his Christmas boxes on Jan. 18 last year, and they were mailed in November. Yet come March they were only taking three weeks....don't try to figure it out, just go with it. Use the military flat rate boxes from the post office, they are your best "bang for the buck".  I have found some websites that offer free shipping to FPO/APO addresses as well. I'm going to order some jerky this weekend to go to him out there, he will love that. :)

He should, if not we can figure it out with his name and rank.  Remind him before he goes, also, when you send care packages it can take awhile to get there.  My son did not get his Christmas package on time, and I cried.  He will get them eventually.  He knows you love him, check your email everyday and answer within 24 hours or you might get an email like mine " Hello? Mom!" LOL.

Also, check the Carl Vinson facebook page, you might see a picture with your son in it.  Enjoy the 10 days.  Be strong.

Thanks so much Nalashome!  AZ stands for Aviation Maintenance Administrationman.  I assume my son will know how to set-up his Navy email, correct?  I'll ask him about the address. He recently said that he will be deployed soon after joining the squadron.  He is so excited and my husband and I are so happy for him.
