For those of you who have sailors that are new to the area, or if you are in the military and new here yourself, there are two things I'd like to let you know about. First, my wife and I live in Virginia Beach. I'm a retired Navy chaplain (I also spent 10 years enlisted).

We have a fellowship in our home for servicemen and women. We get together Saturday evenings from 5-9 and eat, play board games, watch DVDs, go miniature golfing, and do other special events types of things. We also get together on Sunday afternoons from 1-5 for a big home cooked meal (Yvonne is a great cook!) and fellowship.

If you have sailors stationed here, or you're stationed here, and want to meet people, make friends, and have some fun doing it, we'ld love to meet you. Check out our profile page and if you're interested, contact us.

That was item number one. Now for item number two. I am also one of the pastors at Azalea Garden Church in Virginia Beach. If you're looking for a good, family oriented, friendly church, come check out our services. We're located at 1541 Centerville Turnpike in Virginia Beach.

Please don't feel lonely here. You have friends here that you just haven't met yet!

To the ladies on locating apartments/homes in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach areas--- just be careful when choosing. Of course this is only MY experience when moving here but I came across some REALLY bad places (with a realtor no less!)
Moved from North Georgia to Virginia Beach and FINALLY came across a great apartment around the 15th place we searched. I have found around here, anything $900 and above is worth it.We are taking advantage of the BAH and using almost all of it for our place. Stay ON or NEAR Hampton Roads.(i.e-closest to 264&64 the best and Virginia Beach Blvd/Independence-for V.B bases) Husband goes to Norfolk everyday for base and its only a 15-20 minute drive a morning(Give or take a few if an accident on highway) It sure does work out in the long run.I am sure I still have many of my listings with me so any questions ladies who are about to make this move DON'T HESITATE to ask anyone about it! The more we communicate with each other the better. Good luck to all who are moving here!

We should put together a lil gathering! My husband and I have been down here since august and haven't met many people and are beginning to wonder if we will ever make friends!

We went through a Realtor who showed us apartments, houses, and townhomes. Maybe you could try that instead? You do not pay the Realtor. They work for you and get paid by the person who is renting the home.

Hello, everyone. We've lived in Virginia Beach for a little over a year. My hubby is deployed right now. I won't be searching for a job until after the first of the year, so I have lots of free time on my hands. I'm really interested in meeting new people and making friends in the area. If anyone is interested in getting together for lunch, a drink, to take a walk, or do anything, send me a message and let me know. Looking forward to hearing from you! =)

Thanks to everyone who gave us some jumping off places to check out---internet searching for housing is great, but, it does have limits and there's just so much you can actually do without being right in the area and it's just not possible for us to travel back and forth right now. We sure appreciate everyone's input, ideas, and suggestions-----we'll look at anything---well, almost, some areas we have already decided would not seem an ideal location with my daughter having a new baby and all. I really need to feel relatively safe about where she will be living and running around at. Thanks again.
