Hi julie! My husband and I moved here in March, he decided he didn't want to live in base housing, well my opinion..... your son and his wife would be better off in base housing if they would want to. I'll just put it this way, we're breaking our lease the end of this month because we chose a bad area and didnt realize it! It looked nice online, and it is very nice inside but the area is a disaster. I'm sure that ther are nice places but We have just decided since we have a child that we would probably be better off on base. My husband is also stationed at NAS Oceana. Good Luck :)

I haven't been on here in quite some time, so I just want to make a short comment here by way of introduction. I'm a retired Navy chaplain. Yvonne and I have a "home away from home" for servicemen and women in our home on weekends. On Saturdays we get together for food fun and games. On Sundays we have a big home cooked meal after church and then we relax, watch Christian videos, have Bible studies where the guys and girls can ask questions and hopefully get some answers.

If your sons or daughters get orders to the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area and you think they might be interested in getting away from the base for a few hours, into a "real" home, with a real family, let them know about us. We'd love to invite them over. Send us a private message on here and we'll give you our contact information. We've had several Navyformoms' sailors to the house. Some Navyformoms have even visited!

My wife and I have lived in Virginia Beach for 9 1/2 years now and have only experienced one significant snowfall in those years. This month has been really different! Wow! This is what I'm used to growing up in Iowa. I just wish they would clear the main arteries through town. Oh well. It is pretty!

Hi everybody,

I'm new to this group (though not new to Navyformoms.com).

I see several of you are new to this area. Welcome! I'm a retired Navy chaplain and am also one of the pastors at Azalea Garden Church of God. If you're looking for a really friendly, family oriented church come try us out. We'd love to meet you.

Yvonne and I also have a hosue church ministry in our home where we invite servicemen and women over on Saturday evening for food and games and Sunday afternoon for a big home cooked dinner and fellowship. Check out our profile page. We'd love to provide you a "home away from home" (kind of a surrogate family) while you're here.

Email us if your interested and we'll provide contact info. Delete Comment

I don't know who is responding to whom. The Ghent area is in Norfolk (nice and trendy) but Oceana is in the eastern end of Virginia Beach - a very long commute! Sorry, but in good traffic that would be almost an hour commute.
