So my son just got home from his first deployment, and needed to buy a car. We shopped around Hampton and Virginia Beach.....the people at Beach Ford gave him the most amazing deal - they were fantastic. I recommend them without reservation!!

Mause,

Flying in/out of Patrick Henry is not a problem, however, I wound NOT stay on that side of the water. You will be at the mercy of the tunnel traffic, which can be a nightmare. Especially in the Summer. Patrick Henry is 60 to 75 minutes from Oceana without traffic. There are places to stay near Oceana on Bonney Road and Independence Blvd. (Extended Stay, Clarion, Days Inn, etc.). If your budget is tight, I would look in Norfolk, Chesapeake, and Suffolk.

I haven't been on here in quite some time, so I just want to make a short comment here by way of introduction. I'm a retired Navy chaplain. Yvonne and I have a "home away from home" for servicemen and women in our home on weekends. On Saturdays we get together for food fun and games. On Sundays we have a big home cooked meal after church and then we relax, watch Christian videos, have Bible studies where the guys and girls can ask questions and hopefully get some answers.

If your sons or daughters get orders to the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area and you think they might be interested in getting away from the base for a few hours, into a "real" home, with a real family, let them know about us. We'd love to invite them over. Send us a private message on here and we'll give you our contact information. We've had several Navyformoms' sailors to the house. Some Navyformoms have even visited!

JP - my wife and I live in Barboursville (a mile from Route 29 in Charlottesville). We'd be interested in participating in a get-together some time. Our son is about halfway thru his first deployment, but we do get to talk to him online and thru Skype surprisingly frequently. (he's not on a sub!). Glen

Here in southwest Virginia we enjoyed a 56 degree day. Sunny with a nice breeze. Daffodils and tulips popping through the snow and they're loaded with buds! Makes me look forward to seed catalogs! Our sailor reports that it was snowing at Bangor (Washington) today! He said it would have been good packing snow if it hadn't melted soon after hitting the ground. Think Spring!

May sounds pretty good to me. I'm an avid rose person myself. But spring brings with it a lot of planting and fertilizing. I think I'm getting ready to come out of "dormancy." :)

I just saw your posts. Wow! I'm sorry you have been so cold. I hope things are better for you now. We've had more snow here in Virginia Beach this past couple of weeks than I've seen in 9 1/2 years! Usually, I like the snow. But I've seen now that they clear the interstate (64 and 264) here, but they don't clear the main roads in the area. that makes driving here after a snow storm treacherous.

Thank you very much. It is a great blessing having a son like mine. He's an only child. He was always a good kid. Intelligent, with no motivation or direction coming out of high school. I am very grateful and humbled that the US Navy offers such great programs. Some tax dollars don't go to waste.
