Is there a group around the Portland area?  I am new at this.  My daughter just left for boot camp on Wednesday and could really use a support group.  Thank you,

Awwwwww Dawnas mom if you didn't find one then it will be Washington/Oregon ... If you have any questions pls just PM me and I will try and guide you.. I have been a Navy mom since 2002 when my daughter graduated BC and then she got out and my son went in : ) Its always confusing but N4Ms is a great place for you to be.. Find her PIR group too ..

Marsha ( Mikes moom )

Dawn:  I don't have an answer for you, but other moms from Oregon or South Wa will be able to guide you...

Welcome to the WA/OR Group.... come on over and join us in the main WA/OR group ' and get even more visibility there ...not everyone checks in on questions that are submitted in 'sub-groups'  (as you have just created here)    There might be more Moms than you realize in your area!  :)

How do i get to the main WA/OR group?  I thought that was what I was on already.

Hi again Dawnas....i know, a bit confusing isn't it? You are in the Wa Ore group or chapter, but you are in a "sub-group" sort of, with a couple of layers within it.....so to have more visibility for your question, and to meet more MOMS!  .... just look up above here at the top of the entire page, next to your picture and you'll see an arrow that says:  back to washington & oregon discussions. click on that....  Then another window pops up with yet another  (small) arrow that says: back to washington & oregon discussions.  click on that again...and it will take you to the main WA/OR discussion site where most of us check in and discuss.

Just start typing below the "COMMENT WALL,   and your question will appear there, and we can welcome you in the group!....this is where most of us check frequently, rather than that  'discussion wall'

  see ya there.

See you there!

If you are unable to find a group down in Portland the person who started Molly's Adopt a Sailor is in the Portland area. Just friend her and I am sure she can help guide you.

I live in Salem and have a son on the HMJackson out of Bangor - it's a Trident sub. He's out on his first tour after 2 years of training. Those first few months are the hardest but I still find that every time he leaves after being home I miss him like crazy - it's horrible. You will get through this - so proud of the decision your daughter made!

Jennifer

Dawn you are in the discussion in the WA/OR group.

Anytime you want to meet up for coffee let me know

I am new to this as well. My son left from Portland for boot camp on Wednesday the 4th. The group that he was with had 2 girls and 2 boys....I remember only one of the girls name.

Hi Dawnas mom,

I'm south of you in Albany, if you need someone to talk to I've been involved with the navy off and on since 1985.  Also have one son active duty and one medically retired.  This is a good group - lots of knowledge.  If you sent me a friend invite I'll give you my phone number to call if you need to talk.

Also, go to the Boot Camp Moms group: http://www.navyformoms.com/group/bootcampmoms . You will find yourself in great company of other moms who can't stop crying (or in my case, can't sleep!). As the days go by, you will meet moms whose kids arrived the same day as yours. Next, read all the stuff about Surviving Boot Camp: http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/survival-guide-for-navy-for... It has powerpoints and videos as well as links to other sites. Personally, I have found the videos of Boot Camp have helped me a lot! Most of us got a Ship and Division listing from the recruiter before the form letter arrived. I guess you just have to be careful because what they have may not end up being where your kid is. If you read the survival guide, you will find out that the Ship is their barraks building and the Division is the group they are bunking/training with. Apparently, Divisions are set up organizationally as a ship would be. They spend most of their time together just as they would on a real ship. Once you have Ship and Division, you can group up with other moms who's kids are in the same Ship usually even the same Division. Then as moms get their letters, you will find out your SR projected PIR (graduation) date. When the range of Divisions in the PIR get somewhat gelled, the veteran moms will open up a group for that PIR. These are the people you will be meeting at the PIR and I have found I feel closest to them (other than the moms whose kids are in the exact same Ship/Division as my son). I don't know why it helps to be around other suffering moms, but it has really helped me make it this far!! Just to know that what you're going through is not wierd or unusual, that even though you feel like you're going to go crazy, others have made it through and so will you. Hang with this place and you will find a load of solace and grace.

Hi DawnasMom~ We live in Cascade Locks! My SR left out of PDX on 17July. We should have a get together ! I am going to request you, ok? OOps! Just noticed this was back in April, haha! Anyway I'm still here :)

Great responses here by these terrific MOMS!  So much support in OREGON!

good info too, Mikey's mom...best line:  "other suffering moms"  oh my...we've all BEEN there, haven't we???  :)
