It really isn't misinformation as much as missing pieces of a very large puzzle, one which can shift and change.
The problem with planning leave for a hold time is that the sailor almost always needs permission to go on leave from the A school command, not the ATT command they just left. So he has to go to San-dog and check in, then apply for leave.
There are a lot of factors, and some we haven't seen yet. Just keep a good attitude, stay flexible and have at least two Plan Bs. You do seem remarkably level-headed, many young ladies have stomped off N4Ms by now.
LOL, my hubby (who was in the Navy for 20 years) says heck, just go get married now. The recruiter will bitch and moan, but will have to just deal with it. (He is reading over my shoulder).
We got married in Vegas because we were both on leave from overseas commands and didn't have a clue when we'd see each other again. Getting married made sure we would. So I understand the frustration of not knowing what is next!

the class after my sailors took 2 months to gather enough people into a class! and his is a supper small rating. My husband on the other hand started within less than a week. Im guessing its just luck. His recruiter showed him a class schedule with all the dates the school started to try to give himan estimated time.

He mentioned it because he said the sonar program is usually very small so they may have to wait until enough sailors are finished with ATT since it's self paced. All the misinformation is very confusing!

He is correct. They way the delay for school works is they check into the school, then wait on hold (working minor jobs on base) until there are enough students to class up. However, it is rare for anyone to take leave while waiting to class up. They want the students right there in ready status in case they class up faster than anticipated. Happens all the time.
This info is based primarily on Great Lakes, Pensacola and Goose Creek schools, no reason to think San Diego would be an exception.
(I'm starting to feel bad about giving you so many reality checks.)

He did say that he may be delayed in going to his A school since it's the STG program they may wait to start until there are enough people? Is this incorrect as well? This site has been so helpful without it I would know absolutely nothing!

It is easy to misunderstand the Navy programs until you've been around them a long time, they change all the time, and even the recruiters can get the details incorrect, or explain them badly.  Basically, ATT and A school are on a continuum of training, and the chance of a break in between is slim.

A lot depends on when his A school starts up too.

RAP duty, five days maximum.   And he cannot use it while in student status, he can do so AFTER his A school.
Comment by abuon18 on June 29, 2011 at 6:17pm
Well the way he explained it to me was that there is some sort of work option where he can come home & work at his recruiting station for 2 weeks before going to A school.... Is this not true? I'll have to ask him to double check then. Because then it wouldn't be considered leave since he would be working, is what he was told.
