Jill, Congrats to your family. It will be hard to be patient. My son & his girl of almost 2 years just broke up (but are still friends). Her Mom is anti-military & her family doesn't have anyone that has served. She has NO Clue what to expect & is scared to death. Plus she is headed for college in the Twin Cities. She was here for his party; they still act like they are dating. I love her like a daughter already, & she calls me Mom#2. My husband & I see ourselves in them. And we wish we could do something to help.....but we can't. Just Pray!!!!

Poolmama72, I have been on NFM since before my son left in April for BC and have gathered a truck load of information. Find a site with your daugthers PIR date or Ship/division or if you can't find one create one. It was my saving grave to have the moms who were feeling exactly what I was feeling to get through the 8 weeks of BC. Jake's PIR was May 27th. As for how we did the weekend, we went down early in the morning the day of PIR. We arrived about 2 hours early. I believe I booked our hotel 2 - 3 weeks ahead of schedule. If you want to do the PIR Meet & Greet at the Ramada in Weukegan you should go down the night before seeing that is usually when they hold the M&G but you don't have to stay there to attend. We stayed at the Super 8 - $60/night. Rooms were nothing fancy but clean and had a fridge in the room. Most hotels in the Waukegan/North Chicago area are only about 5 - 7 miles from the gate. You will get a brochure on hotels, activities etc with your form letter. Also this site will guide you along the way. Good luck to your daughter and remember it is okay to totally miss and worry about her. And remember we have all been there and are here for you.......

Is it a crime to chase the mail person if you aren't canine? Sorry, needed a little humor today and thought I would share.

I am a first time mom too and didn't get on with the navy4 moms until after my son was at A school in florida. it is an awesome site. I just joined this one but have been on the site with moms and wives from my son's ship. these ladies really help give some insight to what we need to know. Graduation is awesome. Enjoy the meet and greet was nice we met a few people from all over the country. enjoy the whole experience and good luck to your daughter.

Hello to all in the group. My daughter entered the DEP program June 16th..and shipped to RTC July 20th. I received her civies today and am waiting to receive my form letter. Can anyone give me some insight on PIR...how fast do hotels fill up, cheapest place, closest place? How many days in advance should we go..I read somewhere there is a meet and greet the evening before RTC...or will all this be in my form letter?
Sorry so many questions....first time Navy mom...LOL!!!

Congrats Jill, to your son and new daughter-in-law, I wish them all the best.

Jan- Have a wonderful time, we can't wait until we get to do that.

Thank you everyone for the nice comments, I do miss him but I know it's what he's gotta do. It's the first time away from home and on a plane, so he was really excited. I know he's gonna love it.

Congrats Jill! How exciting to be adding to your family.Have a great time this weekend - hope the weather holds for you.
Rhonda, I'm sure you are already missing your son. But how exciting to be heading on to his duty station and starting this next chapter. My son is chomping at the bit to get through school and on to his duty station. To him it seems like a life time already.
