OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. Tickets are now issued for all guests, and all guests must have a ticket to enter base. A separate parking pass is no longer needed to drive on to base for parking.

My husband and I are moving to Whidbey Island in 3 weeks. We are not living on base. We've been researching some apratments/condos, but are worried about the areas. If anyone has any advice on decent/safe areas it would be appreciated. We plan on looking more when we arrive there, but we would also like to have an idea in mind of where to look.

Thanks, NavyWifeEGS

Its pretty safe out here. Some neighborhoods look better than others. Do you want to live on base or out in town? If out in town there are a lot of rental companies.

There is a lot of apartments on oak harbor rd. We live right off it in a neighborhood its pretty nice. All the areas ive seen are nice nothing horrible.. Look up tara rental company, whidbeyhomesforrent.com they usually have a bunch of houses/apartments. When are you guys coming up here? We just moved here in October an had to stay at the navy gateway for a few nights but Tara properties got us in our house like 2 days after we put in the application which was nice! If you have to stay in a hotel the navy should pay you back they did for us at least. What command is your husband in??

Ur not.far from me although.we are moving to base housing.soon this month.

Sorry I never replied sooner. We moved out in here September and found a great place in Oak Harbor almost immediately, which was nice. My husband is in VP-40. We're both liking it here so far. What is your husbands command?

Im horrible about getting on this website! How are you? My husband is in VR-61 to answer your question

My husband and I are moving to oak harbor in a week :) I'm so excited but very nervous we're from Texas and have never lived up north. How do you guys like it there?

I'm from texas as well am will be moving there in about two months...maybe sooner! How do you like it?

Ive only been here for a week so I'm not familiar with everything yet but so far I like it here! The weather is completely different from Texas but the scenery is beautiful and there's lots of great outdoors to explore if you like that stuff. I'm still adjusting to everything it's hard to move to a different state where you don't know anyone that's the hardest part for me.

Im from alabama so can totally relate to the weather. I need the heat an sun back in my life!! We have been here since october last year the weather is absolutely ridiculous! Snowing in March! We love doing outdoors stuff its just not fun with all the rain. Also you cant take a 6 month old hiking in the rain haha.. But i literally know 2 people in Oak Harbor it is difficult!

Keisha, How have you been i haven't talked to you in a while. Is your hubby back yet??

I know what you mean I'm so used to the sun it's going to take a lot of adjusting for me! And It is hard to do a lot of outdoors stuff with young kids my son is almost two and it still limits what we can do! Do you live on base?

Yes it is my daughter is 7 months old an taking her places is a pain!! We live out in town but i really want to move in housing! Our apartment sucks! I need something bigger.. If you ever want to get out an explore the island i would be glad to show you around :) I know how much it sucks being stuck in a house with a baby an no friends lol..
