I am at the Navy Gateway in whidbey island nas right now!!!!! I just got here yesterday after being in a car for 15 hours etc etc I swear I'm flying here next time. Hahah. Feeling the distance with all of my body sucked... Anyway, is it okay if I just went out and walked around in the base by myself? I'm scared...

Thanks, looks like I did a lot of talking to myself for awhile, as I found out things. I did call the Navy Lodge and they said we could stay there but my son would have to make us reservations and sponsor us. So, looks like that is what we will do since the other hotels are mucho more moolah. When you are going to be gone for a week, everything we can save on is good.

okay, never mind, I did find a phone number but is the Navy Lodge just for military or is it for families of military also?  I guess that is what I am wondering.  : )

oops! I just read the June 6 entry so that does help but is there a number for the Navy Lodge?  If that is the best place for us.

Okay ladies, I have a question for you. Later this year we are planning a trip to Whidbey to visit our son and he mentioned the Navy Lodge or something similar for families visiting. Do you know about this and have info to share?  If not, where is a nice, inexpensive place to stay?  Any information is greatfully appreciated since we can't seem to get our son to stay on top of this and check into it.

Hello Islanders :)  I've been looking all over for some kind of poetry/creative writing group... something where people share what they like or share what they have written themselves.  It doesn't look like anything exists as far as I can find - I'll keep digging.  But the Daily Grind and Book Gallery in Oak Harbor said that they would like something like that and I could try to start one... would anyone be interested in something like this?  I need some creative energy...  It might be slow moving at first but if anyone is interested it would be awesome to try to get something moving.  Do you like poetry, prose or short stories?  It could be things that you read and like or things that you have written yourself.  I write poems and short stories along with my visual artworks.  Any thoughts?

Thanks for the recommendations, when it gets closer I will keep all this in mind.

Looking forward to travelling. Wish we had the extra time to drive but I think we will fly so we don't have to be gone as long.  Haven't flown since Aug. 2001, 1 month before 9-11 so will need to get educated on so many things!

Hi Nola.  There are a lot of places to stay near the base and I believe there is a Navy Lodge as well that you would be able to stay at.  When we first got here there wasn't housing ready for us so we staid at a place called the coachman inn which was pretty affordable and clean.  It was also a close distance to the base.  There are a lot of other places to stay as well so you shouldn't have any problem finding something.
