theraysmom: I live right outside of Norfolk, in Suffolk, VA. I hope your son can find a lot to do here if he has free time. I'm sure you know we are very close to the beach and even closer to the bay. We are only 3 hours or so away from awesome skiing in the mountains. Please let your son know that there are people here who would welcome him for any holiday or special occasion. I would love to have him here and we have plenty of room.

Thanks Emma, Sounds like she's making a great move and that my son has about 4 years until he may have to make a similar choice! I have a friend with two sons who are CTRs and seem to have done very well.

Well wishes Lady Hamilton to you and your daughter.

I haven't been on Navy for Moms in a bit. My son's orders were changed again. He is no longer assigned to  the USS Nimitz. He is now going to be doing shore duty in Norfolk, Virginia will be assigned to one of the  14 Admirals there. The changes is orders were  again due to his performance at school. I am happy for him for receiving just a great position being just out of school but it is so far from us 2000 miles. He says he will go to school and get his degree as he will not deploy. He also got 3 years of shore and not 2 so we will see he is home at the moment and doesn't leave until the middle of this month. So I plan to enjoy him. if I  get a chance to see him too many friends.

Navy MomJeg ship 12 div 325 I hope your son enjoys A school it is way different that Boot camp for them.

Good luck to your daughter in her new job. May I ask why the change? Our son just left for A school.

My son has received his orders . He is going to be a Yeoman for a Senior Chief  on the USS Nimitz. He seems happy. He was told because of his good grades and leadership skills he showed and recommendations of his teacher. He was given this position. So proud of him.  Best thing is he should be home soon. Can wait to have my son home even if is only for a while.

Welcome Video R's Mom

I  think there are lots of different reactions to our children going to BC the best thing about this site is. It is so helpful no matter how you react. There are others who react the same or have the same questions. Be sure to visit the site Boot Camp Moms ,if you haven't yet. There is so much great information. I would have been so lost without this site. It helped so much. So many great Veterans that help along the way. My son is in A school has been there 3 weeks. Boot camp was quite a ride. I am still adjusting to him in A School. just waiting to hear where he will be stationed.

Good Morning, Everyone:

My son left for boot camp yesterday at 10 am.  I am fortunate that I work 2 miles from home and was able to see him off.  He will be a yeoman and I am anxious to see the sailor he becomes.  I thought I would be more affected by him leaving, but I felt joy for him.  I am just waiting to find out when he arrives at Great Lakes and when I can start writing him.

Yea I is a good idea he did say he should get 14 days. But I get a little nervous trusting that he will get it never know with the Navy. But I guess I have to more positive.

Training manuals helped to see just how busy he will be. I think I am learning to try and let it go my son is 19 and he went from Mom I am hungry and serve me please to I have to do this myself and my way. It is just a adjustment. I think a am learning HaHa at least I am mostly trying. But thanks for the advice I feel kinda bad asking all the questions and not having any answers. Who knows maybe in two years I will be more like you ladies. He starts class tomorrow. I just decided to text, FB and write without expecting a response. that way at least the connections stays open and just see where it goes.
