My son was there for 4.5 years.  He liked it.  He just longed for wide open spaces. Tokyo is a fun place.

My son loves Yokosuka and has made a ton of friends on the ship.

My son is a Surgical Tech.  He loves Yokosuka as well.  They have a great transportation system in Japan and my son has been all over the place.  He has climbed Mt Fuji twice, snowboarded, scuba dived with the bubble club.  He will have a sponsor that should contact him soon.  They have classes in "Japan" the first week he is there.  I think they do a good job of getting them integrated and used to Japan.  Please also join the Japan mom's group as there is a wealth of knowledge there too.

sethmom, My son is a QM in Yokosuka. He loves Japan. Does your son have any shipmates going as well? If so it will help to know someone. My son made friends on board ship. He has friends that have now become his Family, which int urn means I have more kids!! It'll all work out he will be fine & you can converse through Facebook messenger with him when cell phones don't work.

Hi my son has just gotten his "soft " orders for Japan is super scared about it.  Any advice?  This mama isn't real sure about it either.  We thought he would be going to Norfolk. This is quite the shock.

Hi everyone.  I'm new to this group.  My son is headed there now.  Praying for safe travels.

My son's commitment to Yokosuka was for a three year term which ends this coming September.  We are lucky that his Grandmother and I both drilled into his head that some girls are only in it for coming to the United States and to be careful about who he dates.

Like your family ours is a long time Military family as well.  I will keep you, your son and the situation in my prayers and hope that his eyes will open soon.
