Good Morning GiGi.  My son has been in Japan 2 1/2 years now.  He is on land, not a ship.  His US phone never worked, he ended up buying a phone in Japan.  We skype, or facebook message to communicate.   Or just plain Email.   I was stationed in Japan for 4 years a very long time ago (My sailor was born there!)  It is a beautiful place, hope you get to visit.    We are now waiting on orders out, but after 3 months the Navy has not said yes to anything and my sailor is "needs of the navy" meaning they pick where he goes.  The waiting is awful................

Good Morning! I am new here my son just sailed out on 08/31/15. Very excited and nervous. Any idea how we should go about a cell phone? He left with his Verizon phone as they said he could buy a sim card in Japan?

My son cancelled his phone all together and got a new phone in Japan. Did you know if you both have facebook messenger and you are both on wifi, you can click the phone icon and it will make a call over facebook and you can have  regular phone conversation?

My sailor "suspended" his Verizon account when he let in Sept. We even got a letter from Verizon confirming it was suspended. Then hubby mistakenly texted the # instead of emailing and got a response from someone stated that it was there # not our sailor's. So like Amberwaves says not perfect.
He bought a phone in Japan.
We communicate via email, Facebook, Facetime & phone call via his international phone card.

What Amberwaves said.

I just re-suspended my son's phone last week.  We also use the "Line" app to communicate.

Good Morning All,

Does anyone here recall where we can purchase a cake for our service person.  I thought there was a link before but I can't find it.

Thank you! Happy Camel day.
