He is attached to George H.W. Bush. They have been gone since January 18th, but they had to be on the ship the day before, hes almost been gone a month. I cannot say what day they are coming back on here but soon. Girl, wow you're better than me. I just got out of college. i'm about to start looking for a job up here, but i'm not completely finished with my degree. I dont know how you can do college full time and 2 jobs. I took 18 hours one semester and it almost killed me. lol so i stuck to 16 hours after that.

Very true. I didnt want my husband to go, because we just got married and moved up to Virginia. We were in our apt a week before he had to go underway. Can you say bad timing? optimism is great but unfortunately it is easier said than done. I thank the Navy for implanting  the phrase " everything is going to work out" in my husbands vocabulary. lol

Yeah the time is definately intimidating, but it will go by faster than you think. My husband always says it gets a little bit easier as the days go on, because each day you are one day closer to being home. lol he's an optimist can't you tell??

Hi Ashley. Welcome!!!! i completely understand what you mean. It's very stressful. My husband is underway but he deploys in May.

That is definitely helpful, I really need to start looking into it soon--I didn't realize there was such a wait for base housing. It sounds like I will be doing a lot of searching and visiting places while he is gone, haha. Thanks for all the advice!

hmm i am going to tell you like nobody told me. You should search apts. early. look at the reviews but do not completely trust all of them. My husband and i live in The Thalia area in Virginia Beach (he is stationed at Oceana). It is not an awful part of town, but it seems like the closer you get to Norfolk the more rundown the apts are. Base housing( the nice base housing) has a 5 mth waiting list right now. I will tell you something that might present a problem. There is a tunnel on the way to Norfolk that has really bad traffic, so i would also take that into account when choosing apts off base. we pay 1100$$ for our 2 bdrm 2 bathroom apt.  I would recommend visiting the apts because a lot of them look nice online, but are dreadful in person.

Girl, you are brave! Haha! We have started to look into apts, just nothing really serious yet since it will be awhile. He doesn't want to live on base, but he wants me to find us something and I have no idea where to start. I don't know good vs. bad places to live or anything like that. I have a Hampton Roads Apt. Finder Book, but just looking at it is overwhelming. Do you have any recommendations on anything or where I should start looking? Haha
Comment by MeLaNiE on February 5, 2011 at 10:18pm
Hopefully lol. i mean i mastered the Sat. traffic today in the rain to go pick my friend up so thats got to mean something. haha are you guys looking into apts yet?
Comment by NavySweetheart11 on February 5, 2011 at 10:15pm
Wow, it has been a really busy month for yall! It's got to be hard on you with him being gone and trying to figure out where everything is at. The traffic freaks me out too, it's the worst. You will have to give me some pointers when I move to the area, lol. By that time, you will be a pro!
