Welcome, deaf65. Aww, a hard day for you! Our family has also gone through boot camp, A school, temporary duty, C school, duty station on the other side of the continent, and now deployment on the other side of the world! Wait ... that isn't so comforting at this point is it? Oops. Well, what I mean is, it gets better. And they are doing such important work -- what will your son's job be?

Welcome deaf65 - there is not one mom here or anywhere else on N4M's that doesn't understand exactly what you're going thru! My family has made it thru the bootcamp and A school experience and our son is now so far away in Japan. He is doing what he loves to do and he is such a good person for wanting to serve his country. We are so proud of him. Sounds to me like you feel the same way about your boy. There is so much information on N4M and support. We are here for you. I will friend you so I can send you some links that might help you with info.

Hi CT moms,

So sorry that we were unable to get a packing party together for this month.  That being said, I wondered if you ladies would be able to contribute a package or two to help with this months MAS adoption. If you are unable to send something on your own, maybe you could write some notes. Cards and support letters would be so appreciated. Anything to boost morale and keep them smiling!  If you have any questions or need some help, please feel free to message me and I'll try to help in any way that I can.  Hoping to get together in  the future for a packing party , to meet all of you!  Thanks for your help, MJ

I apologize for disappointing you all.  We had to change the dates which is why Marlene needed to cancel the use of the church.  It didn't seem like much notice was being given for Moms to go shopping for items to send.  Unfortunately the end of the month just didn't seem to work either.

If someone would like to take over and have a party at their home, I'd be happy to send along the paperwork so that it could be registered with Molly's Adopt A Sailor.  My knee keeps me from being able to drive too far so I will come if I can, but it would depend on where in CT it is going to be held.

@Donna - Right now we don't have a place to have the packing party.  It is beginning to look like we will not be able to have a packing party in June.  In which case, we will just aim for July instead.

If anyone wants to send a box on their own the wish list for ABHs on the GW is located in the discussion above.  If anyone does decide to pack a box and send it along and needs the addy please let me know and I will get it for you.  I think that is what I will be doing for this month's group.

And, if anyone knows of a place to meet and pack our goodies, let me know so I can get the party registered.  Thanks Moms!

Donna, Still planning on attending and helping out in any way I can. Please let me know when you have a place in mind.  If things don't change here, I'll be there.

@Luke'sMom, the date we chose is Saturday, 6/23; in the afternoon, beginning at 1 or 1:30P.  We are looking for someone to be the hostess for the event (to provide coffee, tea, water - something to drink - and paper products.  The Moms attending are asked to bring a dessert dish to share.  That way it isn't overwhelming to anyone.  Usually between the hostess and myself, we take care of getting the boxes.  We will also need to gather supplies such as packing tape, labels, custom forms, scotch tape, scissors, pens ~ things we would just get out of our kitchens if we were packing a box at home.

I really need a Mom from CT to help me out here.

So that is where things stand right now.

Sailors coming home sounds like a great kind of issue to have! My son called me from the ship this morning. Always the best day when I hear his voice. Says they are working 12-14 hr days. He sounds tired but happy and has made some friends. Told him I've sent boxes with stuff he asked for plus some surprises. Hope he like them. Very tough when I have to say goodbye and hang up the phone, kinda teary.
Regarding the packing party, when you settle on a date let me know. My dad lives in Groton and he may know of a spot that would be appropriate for the space needed to host the event.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this AM I am.  We are going to have to put off our packing party until July.  Family issues for some of us, Sailors coming home, etc.

I am probably still able to help out, but we would need to find a place near the CT/RI border, preferably fairly near to Groton.  I can't drive too far yet and that would have to be about the limit for me.

Anyone interested?  Leave me a message in the discussion above and I'll get back to you.
