I am a new Navy Mom, my son is at GL for bootcamp now, scheduled to PIR 03/09/2012. I would be happy to help out in any way.

Proud Navy/NYPD Mom - I live about 20 minutes north of Groton, CT. Can I help you and/or your Sailor in some way?

Just wondering, any Moms here who live near Groton, CT?

Happy Valentine's Day!

Comment by Proud Navy/NYPD Mom (Donna) on February 12, 2012 at 2:16pm

Just wanted to stop in and say hello!  I feel badly that I come and go so often.  Having had the knee injury and surgery and now PT twice a week takes up so much time.  I'll be so glad when things get back to normal!  Hope everyone is keeping warm on this cold blustery Sunday and that all is well with your sailors.

Take care!

I don't know if I'll have any answers, but I do know that my son had a friend in A school who had just come back from being a ceremonial guard,

I did thank you. I hope to find out if he has been accepted with his next letter, due to arrive on Thurs. If he is accepted, I will have MANY more questions. He is at BC now, set to PIR 03/09/2012. Ceremonial Guard would change everything, I think. He volunteered, but is so excited about it, I hope he is accepted.

Hi Amyaod -- I see you got an answer already on the boot camp group. Good luck to your son on that!

Comment by AmyaodRN on February 11, 2012 at 9:17pm

Does anyone have any info on the selection process for the Ceremonial Guard? What is the criteria for acceptance, other than 6' tall?

A packing party is a great way to get to know each other and learn more about one another's sailors.  I always find it deep down satisfying because I'm being a part of something so much larger than myself.  I think you will all find this to be true.  The main thing to remember is to not get wrapped up in what you can or cannot do.  Everything that is sent is considered to be from all in the group.  Sometimes some Moms can write notes and cards, while others can afford to buy items.  But no one puts their name on things as being from them alone.  Well, except for writing a note you have to sign it.

Flyersnut, do you have a date and place for your party yet?  You need to get that set ASAP so you can start announcing and encouraging people in this group to attend.  There is paperwork that you will need to fill out too, but we can talk about that later.  I'll work at putting together a check-list for you.  I've done it so often now that it is almost 2nd nature!  Don't worry!!  Between Pat L. and I we will help you through this first one and then you'll have the 'bug' and packing parties will be a part of CT Navy Moms!

@ctstan - it will be great to have your help.  The more the merrier!!

@ Valtameri -- same thoughts go out to you as well!

Talk to you later.
