Hi to all... I have never participated in a packing party and would love to help.  My SR is at MEPS tonight and is leaving for Great Lakes in the morning.  I'm really looking forward to getting to know other Navy moms and participating in some soldier projects.

Hi Everyone!  You probably thought I'd dropped off the face of the earth!  Hardly, but I have been out of commission.  I fell going up our front stairs and really did a job on my right knee. I wanted to wait til the holidays were over to contact a Dr. - not a good idea.  Had surgery last week, will see the surgeon on Thurs. and then I think the work will start!!!

Sounds like a lot of new Moms.  That is always great news.

I missed the last get-together, but I really hope to be able to make the next one.  Hopefully I will have my driving privileges back in time!

A packing party would be GREAT.  When we do one in MA it is always for Molly's Adopt a Sailor.  That is a great group to join if you haven't.  Lots of things always going on.  Pat L. is the official welcome person for new Molly Moms.  She is a great resource.  I'm willing to help you too.  We have some MA Moms who live close to CT maybe I can get some more Moms for your party.  We've tried having parties in the western part of the state excuse me, Commonwealth, but it has been very hard getting someone to be the hostess/contact person & some things are just too difficult for me to do from Plainville  Things like finding a place to meet and a few other logistics.  Let me know if I can help in any way, OK?

How nice that his girlfriend is right there for him (and he for her).

I would be happy to do the Adopt a Sailor Project, and I'm sure our 4H group would like to help as well.

I would enjoy meeting for lunch. Ideas for place/date? Something Valentine-y?

Welcome Katieliz! My son joined the day after Flyersnut's son; he is underway on a carrier right now.

Thanks Nita, yes, I do belong to the Lincoln group. He's only been with them about 6 weeks, but I joined the group as soon as he knew what squadron he'd be with, so I've been there for about 6 months. I saw the pillowcase link, so I made him a pillowcase and mailed it in his last package. :)

Valtimeri..  how long has your son beem on the Lincoln.. I helped make  pillowcases for the ship  Christmas  of  2010 There  is a group for the Lincoln. I belong to that group too.. I never  had a sailor on it. I  just joined to help with the pillowcases and never left the group.. It would be nice to see some action  in that group again.  Donna.. you said your son was on that  ship.. perhaps he got a pillowcase when they were givien out.  I ended up making 12 pillowcases.. not alot compared to others.. But since I  lost my mom a month earlier.. I needed to do something to ease ,my pain some.. and what better way but to do something nice for someone else

It might be that "alone" issue -- I've been wondering how he would do with that, because even though he can be friendly and funny, he is an introvert at heart (like his mom), and introverts can get very drained by being around people all the time. I think I would have to find a little hiding spot, if I were on a carrier.

Comment by Valtameri on January 23, 2012 at 1:01pm

His job is to repair jet engines, but I think because he is low man on the totem pole (he arrived at his perm duty station a couple weeks before they deployed), he is in the line shack, moving jets, washing jets, etc. I'm not exactly sure what he's doing now, but that was what he was doing when he left. :)

Comment by Valtameri on January 23, 2012 at 12:52pm

Yes, he's on the Lincoln, but he's attached to a squadron, so I guess it's not the same thing ... what I mean is, yes, he will come back around with them when they switch to the east coast (Virginia), but his squadron is west coast, so my guess is that they will go back to that side and be reassigned to another carrier for their deployments. It would be nice if he got to stay over on this side of the country! Anyway, it's certainly an exciting time to be on the Lincoln, and he has shared a few interesting things, but I get the feeling that something is wrong (i.e., he seems generally unhappy) and I'm not sure if it's being on the carrier or the people he works with or what.
