Hello ctstan -- I met many of these ladies last year right before my son enlisted, and they were very helpful. My son was also 19 when he went in and had never really been away before. He's done fine with that, but I do miss him. There are ups and downs in the frequency of communications; boot camp was a desert; A school, temporary duty, C school, and his permanent duty station were all very good -- he called very frequently. Now that he's underway (on a carrier), I hear from him less frequently than I did when he was in boot camp.

Hi Flyersnut -- I would be happy to helping with a packing party. Let me know what you find out. My son is assigned to a jet squadron whose homeport is in middle-of-nowhere California. Right now he is on the USS Lincoln.

Hi, I am new to this group.  My son leaves for bootcamp on February 2nd, so we are very new to the Navy.  So very proud of him, but not looking forward to not having contact with him.  He is only 19 and has never been away from us for such a long time.

I think we have some new members! Would you like to say hello and tell us a little about yourself?

I have a son in the  Navy who is approaching his one year anniversary. (Can you believe that Flyer? I know that your son is one day ahead of mine.) He is an AD (aviation machinist's mate, repairs jets) and is currently underway.

You and I should plan something together Flyer. :)

I'm doing pretty well, considering everything. How are you?

I'm thinking of a get-together soon. Anyone interested?

Sometimes those sponsors don't answer. There is often a sponsor office she can call if necessary. Somewhere on her orders or the welcome aboard website it usually says "if you do not hear from a sponsor within ... please contact us at ..."
