PS The group you'd want to check is Massachusetts Navy Moms.
@ CTmomof2 - MA Moms are trying. While we can get it together for a packing party for the troops, to get together for fun?? Hasn't worked out yet or should I say still!!
Perhaps for our next packing party a few of you can come and see what goes on. AND vice versa. We need some fun together time too. If you were to join our MA group to see what happens, you wouldn't find much chatting going on. Just a thought ... ;-) Make sure you join the right MA group!! LOL
We are working with some RI Moms after the 1st of the year to make plans for a N4M presence and a Molly's Adopt A Sailor focus at Fleet Week in Boston over the 4th of July. We are gonna need lots of help, maybe some of you might like to join up with us? Something else to think about.
I sorta ended up the state ombudsman between MA and "Molly's" by default. If you ever think you want to do a packing party, let me know. I'd be glad to help out and share what we've learned. In the meantime, someone from CT might want to join the group Molly's Adopt A Sailor. Warning: it can be confusing in there because so much is always happening, just leave a question/comment & I can guarantee many will jump up to help you figure out what is happening - including me. Just remember, call me NYPD because there are other Donna's and that is almost always what everyone calls me.
We had our best party ever. I'll post a pic hopefully later today.
Hmm, pictures of last night..nope. This is the first time that's happened. It was enjoyable last night. We ALWAYS have a good time. There were only 4 of us so just a lot of catching up was done. We needed some new people to join us.. Hoping better luck next time. :)
Keep us updated on any N4M stuff going on. Your area seems to be more active than ours right now.
Hi Moms! Just looking to see how last night went. Did you all have a great time? I so wanted to meet you IRL, but hopefully next time.
@ Donna, I read your post about your son in Greece. He should go to Molly's Adopt A Sailor (aka MAS) website: www.MollysAdoptASailor.com where he can request adoption for himself and/or his colleagues. I don't know his rank, but he may have to get the Chaplain to submit the request. Requests are taken from anyone, but for a group adoption it is best to have the senior enlisted person or chaplain or even a junior officer put in the request. It can take up to 6 months for a group to get to the top of the list. (We only adopt one group a month in MAS.) A smaller group may be put on the website for anyone who visits to adopt. Check it out and see what you think. I absolutely LOVE being involved with MAS. It is very active and the Moms are wonderful all working together to send "Mom love" to deployed troops. AND they are especially supportive of one another. Give them a try and see what you think. I'd love to hear your opinion (or anyone else's who reads this). Only don't expect to find me as "Donna" - nearly all of them call me NYPD!! Once in a while you will see my real name, but not too often.
Any pictures from your get-together last night??
Hi Donna! Thank you!
I wish I could make it this time, but I'm in charge of a packing party this week-end at the UMass/Lowell campus & I'm up to my eyelids in getting things ready! I'm not quite sure how I became the packing party coordinator for the state, but I am!
Still they are so much fun (once everything is in place) and knowing that our boxes are going out to deployed military members who need some support from home makes it ALL worth it. This is the first big one I've had - the cheerleaders at the university called a local Mom and said they wanted to do something for Molly's Adopt A Sailor. So....the rest is history.
Do you ever have packing parties in CT? Just wondering. Our MA parties are usually small 4-8 max. but it is amazing how much we can send when we all pool out items! I really do love doing it. It has just been a difficult week, health-wise, for me which has slowed me down in getting ready.
Have a wonderful time tonight!! I'm going to miss meeting you all so much. You can borrow a picture of my sailor from my page to represent me if you like. I think we are friends right? I'll send you a friend request just in case we aren't yet. Please tell everyone hello from me.
Hugs,
Donna C. (aka NYPD)
Thanks Marlene! The MRI is to confirm the surgeon's diagnosis of fibroid. It will also make certain that nothing was missed when he did the manual breast exam. Altho it was the most intensive breast exam I have ever had, I don't know how he could have missed anything. It almost became embarressing. lol I'm just happy he is being thorough and following through on it. He will be doing some of the monitoring along with my gyn since he now "knows" my breast. What a thing to say, but I know what he meant!!
I just wanted to let you all know that my biopsy results came back early -- negative! I am so very thankful. I have to have one more test - a breast MRI. Never had one of those before. And then of course there is the follow-up and monitoring, but I can live with that.
Have a really super time on Friday! Wish I could be there.
I had just changed my "maybe" to a "yes", but now I am reconsidering it, so I deleted my post. I feel silly asking this, but OG will smell heavily of garlic, correct?
Proud -- hope you heal well and the biopsy comes back with good news.
Flyersnut -- Sorry that you won't be able to go! We have to do a Southern CT get-together one of these days.
Sorry to be MIA so long Moms! I wish I could make it this Friday but I can't this time. Recovering from a biopsy yesterday that hurts like crazy today and trying to get myself better and together for a packing party in Lowell on Sunday afternoon. Should be lots of fun, but I'm feeling so out of it lately. Maybe I need vitamins!!
Thinking about it I probably should take several vitamins - this packing party is with the UMass/Lowell cheerleaders!! If I get any good pics I'll post one or 2 so you can see how things went.
Sorry, I never told you I have a name - it is Donna. Yes, another Donna!
Keep me in mind next time you plan a get-together, I would love to meet some New England Navy Moms. MA Navy Moms has a large membership, but most of them are inactive. Only about 10-15 actually DO something, anything! And only a handful ever even leave a post! Guess that is true everywhere tho. People join and then forget they ever did sign up. Like so many other groups and organizations. Oh well...
A RI Mom and I are spearheading a Navy Mom presence at next year's Fleet Week which is going to be in Boston over the 4th. If you are interested in being a part of this project let me know. We are going to begin organizing once Jan. gets here. Something to do & think summer while it is cold outside!!
