So sorry to read this. What a shock. Is it related to the breakup, do you think?

Comment by Valtameri on July 15, 2012 at 9:50am

It is generally recommended that you wait, but it is up to you. The address you are given may not be correct, which would delay the mail getting to your recruit. Usually waiting for the official form letter does not cause a delay, because the recruits do not get mail for a couple of weeks. However, I just heard from a girl friend who said she waited and her recruit did not get mail when some of the others did. So ... up to you. (I waited, because the recruiter didn't get back to me with the address until the day the form letter arrived. The addresses were the same.)

Yes, things change at GL and recruiters aren't always in the loop.

When I dropped my son off to head to MEPS/GL his recruiter told me to call him friday to see if he had his address. So thats what I did today and found out ship 12 div 285 3515 Sailor Dr  etc. Should i play it safe and wait for the form letter or go by this address??

Hi Leyann --

Yes the day does exist, strange isn't it?

I got my call at about 11:58pm (a couple of minutes before my official birthday). The box arrived in the first week. I didn't mind it at all, I thought it was a nice reminder that he still existed somewhere out there. Plus I had heard how messy and smelly all the boxes were, and then I got mine and my son had folded almost everything, including his duffel bag (the Navy didn't have far to go teaching him to be neat). I thought that was funny.

The form letter is not enclosed in the box, so don't be disappointed when you don't find it there. It arrives separately; I got mine around day 12. It will tell you his official address with ship and division and his graduation (PIR) date. He may also be able to jot down a quick note.

My son's first letter was not a heartbreaker -- I knew that he wasn't much of a writer, so I had sent a questionnaire, and that was what I received as my first letter. The worst thing it said was "my feet hurt". Actually, I only got two letters after that one, and they both said "my RDC is making us write and I have nothing to say." Very talkative young man.

My son arrived at Chicago's O'Hare airport at 5pm today(7/11)-got a quick cell call from him, im sure by now he's at GL. I'm waiting for the "im here at BC" call sometime tonight. All I keep thinking is..."wow this day really does exists!"--Leyann

When my son came home in between A school and leaving for his deployment in Japan, he was home for dinner only 2 days out of 20! They all do the same thing, don't take it personally. Just ask him for some time with you, a special day maybe? He'll willingly oblige - just ask.

Hi everyone, would love to meet up. I'm flexiable for dates/times. I had Justin's send off party last night, it was wonderful, great family and friends. Tuesday is his departure date-i've been good up to a few days ago but keeping it to myself. Whats hard is he is spending so much time with his friends......
