While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Comment by medic mom on November 4, 2012 at 2:58pm: I know that when I mailed one thing to my son at CP it took 3 weeks for him to get it. The post office had it since I had a tracking number. It just takes 3 weeks for them to process it and get it the guys there. My son has asked me to NEVER(and I quote him on that) NEVER send anything through the mail again while he is at CP. Hope this answers your question.

Mail, however, I've heard about. The mail makes it to the base in the same timing you would expect for elsewhere. The difficulty is timing from that point. IF he is not yet assigned / started in his class, he can go during open hours and pick up his package. IF he's already in his class at the time his packages arrive, the hours of the training day do not free him for going to the base post office--the proverbial catch-22. There will be a person tasked with picking up and distributing mail; however, one mom with one class reported a three week delay. My son's classmates did not have any problems. My suspicion is this is luck of the draw. Plan for worst-case, be thrilled at best case.

Yet at Field Med my son met up with corpsmen he'd known at A school two years earlier, and two were out of shape. One was held back, the other developed shin splints and didn't finish, and both had their orders changed - one got to spend the next two years in Camp Lejeune instead of Hawaii. Jacksonville vs Honolulu. Hm.

Comment by DramaSoul on October 27, 2012 at 5:26pm: Marcy, my son was really surprised that Corpsman would arrive NOT in shape for FMTB. He kept saying "Didn't they know?" BTW, one of those pull-up bars is still in my son's room. He started doing P90X before he enlisted in the Navy.

Comment by Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom on October 27, 2012 at 4:18pm: Some of those who have gone to their first duty station after A school, then go to Field Med two years later, amazingly fail to get in shape ahead of arriving, get held back, are put through the Marine fitness program, have their orders changed...not good! Early on my corpsman bought a pull-up bar that attaches to a doorway (it lifts off and on the doorframe), good thing to have...holidays gift idea?? ;) btw the recommended physical conditioning is on the FMTB-East link.

Comment by DramaSoul on October 26, 2012 at 10:39am: txbaby...my son said the same thing about PT at A school. He was doing the crossfit thing and running every day before he went to FMTB. I do believe they have a place to lock up stuff. My son had his laptop and phone. He said it was interesting to go back to living in a compartment like boot camp. He is very glad to be in a room in the barracks of his duty station with his buddy who has been through all of this training (including the same division at GL) with him.

My son said the day before they actually moved into Devil Doc Hall (the FMTB barracks at Camp P), there was a little 'shake out' run of 8 miles....uphill...with packs. Three guys lagged behind and they ALL got to do flutter kicks and pushups on the gravel when they returned. That said, he loved FMTB training.

Here's the link for what to bring, mail info, etc - http://www.tecom.marines.mil/fmtbn-e/Students/Welcome/FMST.aspx Best to keep it light, as on graduation day they have their seabags packed and leave immediately. My sailor skipped the laptop for his iPad and cellphone. You might send him off with a box of his favorite protein bars so he has snacks at the outset without having to shop.
