My daughter is the newest FMF warrior in the Fleet!  She just passed the test today.  This is one proud mamma (of course I was anyway)!

Joshuamom, my son just received his FMF pin this summer. He did his FMTB training right out of A school, but was stationed in New Orleans for two years before he was attached to a Marine Unit. He is currently deployed with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit. I'm hoping he will be home soon, as he has already been gone for 8 months. This is what he has always wanted to do, so I am happy, I just don;t like the worrying that comes with a Marine deployment. (His unit is a ground force unit.)

What I have learned from being a Navy Mom: The military places the sailors where they feel they will excel! My friends son, who is also a corpsman, was "Voluntold" to attend C school for psychology instead of FMTB. He now works with the Marines doing intake for the psychology department. He works mainly with Marines during the Post Deployment stage of life.

Like I said, it is all based on the needs of the Navy and the skills of the sailor.

Good luck with your roller coaster ride!

Joshuamom Kathy is correct. FMF is a commendation that they earn when attached to a Marine unit. She's also correct about all she has said. My son is attached to a Marine unit but his unit isn't front lines. They are artillery. I can say that I do like his unit. They all love their doc. He's at CP and likes it there. Just know also while he goes through FMTB training you might not hear from him much. They are in class and in the field a lot. They are turning your sweet sailor into a Marine. Don't feel bad about no contact. You will hear from him when he has time. Welcome to the group.

On a bright note heard from my son and found out he's now an assistant in the medical prevention program. I'm so proud of him. Just waiting for November now to see if he gets to advance.

Have a great night or day.

Thanks for the OPSEC reminder. We need to keep these guys and gals safe. My son went back to Pendleton and is now awaiting to see what comes next.  Well we do know that advancement test is next on his agenda. Then back to hanging out at BAS and whatever comes after that. Prayers for all that are deployed or will be soon. Prayers for all others also. Oh one more thing. I did get to see my son's FMF pin in person and wow is it beautiful. Have a great day.

After nine long months, my 19 yr. old Camp Pendleton FMTB Corpsman Reservist graduate is expected home around 9/27 (despite any spitting matches with Syria)  From his phone calls, I can not imagine that there will not be some PTSD issues.  Any suggestions for what to expect when he comes home.

(Zombie like symptoms like after PIR?)  I'm guessing alarm clocks are a bad idea.  How do I help him re-enter the civilian world?

Thank you for your info.. I will be sure to tell him about volunteering.. it seems with all that is happening now, they will need some FMF Corpsman!   I hear there is a shortage on combat Corpsman.. is that the same as FMF or is it totally a different type?

Congrats on your Corpsman being home Medic Mom.. I know how precious that time is..lots of great memories and hugs.
