Tenn Navy Mom you are not a downer. It is the reality of the life these guys live. I know that his zest for combat will be diminished one day. For now he is gung ho with wanting action since it is what he has been trained for. He just feels like he is just sitting around picking his nose right now. I am happy for it but he has the warrior mentality. It is funny seeing it in him now. When he was little every little thing and every little wound put in into a frenzy. Now he gives shots and things like that and volunteers to be the guinea pig. Goofy kid. When they say that the military changes them it is the truth. LOL Have a Happy Easter everyone.
medicmom....sending lots of good thoughts for your Sailor .
Thanks, Tenn Navy Mom, for sharing your thoughts. Every day my thoughts and prayers go out to those who are deployed. I think your husband hit the nail on the head...that young warrior mentality aptly describes it! I am the middle of 3 girls and I had a daughter before my son was born. I am constantly amazed at how differently, as a woman, I approach things. My son has always been kind of fearless. The ER in our neighborhood knew us on a first-name-basis until he was 13 years old! I am grateful he is stationed stateside but he is already talking about picking orders in January 2014 and what he wants to do. Sigh. However, as much as I worry about him, he is the most focused and happiest about what he is doing now. Can't argue with that!
BTW, you are not a downer. This is the place where we can come and talk about these things that we cannot share anywhere else. I am continually reminded that people who do not have a loved one in the military, do not understand what I am feeling.
Have a lovely weekend all! Happy Spring, Happy Passover and Happy Easter!!
medic mom, will be sending good thoughts your son's way next week for sure!
I understand his desire for excitement; of course, I'm relieved to hear he's bored, vs. what the other brings.
This video was just posted; it's from the 3/22/2013 FMTB-West graduation at Camp Pendleton, CA. Guest speaker Lt. Gen. John A. Toolan Jr., commanding general of I Marine Expeditionary Force, spoke of the heroism associated with corpsmen, and observed demonstrations of current training methods students receive to prepare them for the fleet. FMTB-West Graduation and Demo, 3/22/13
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Happy Thursday all! Hope you are all doing good and that your corpsman are doing great also. Just an update on my son. He is going to be doing a murder board some time next week and hopefully will be able to schedule a "real" board the following week. If this happens then it should only be a couple of weeks and I will be an official FMF mom. I cannot wait. Keeping my fingers crossed and praying a ton that he can get this going right now and get that pin soon. Been such a long hard road in order to get this pin. It is gonna be so well worth it once it happens. All is well for him in the sandbox. He is pouting since he wants to do a medivac flight and they won't let him. They keep saying that they need him at the base and not out and about. I have laughed with him about it. Told him it was more important to have him at the base handing out bandaids and asprin. LOL He is ready for some excitement and isn't getting it. I hope that they will eventually let him do a medivac flight. Have an amazing day everyone!
I have always enjoyed Wilmington. And glad to hear somebody moved there on retirement! There is hope for me yet!!!
FMF/IDC mom "Ruthella" (member of Corpsman Moms and Dads) and her husband did just that - they retired and moved to Wilmington about two years ago, and they love it! :)
Tenn - my son enjoyed his time in Chicago but he said he will never go back! We too live in a smaller town so he likes the access of having the larger city there if he decides to go. I have even thought of when I retire to move to Wilmington. (Lord willing if I make it that far! LOL)
Tenn Navy Mom - I agree with you in that the Marine-Corpsman bond is amazing to say the least!
He does love CL as it is only 2 hrs away from home so he comes home a lot on the weekends. He loves the area as well. The community in Jacksonville, NC really does stand behind the military and the friendships made there will be hard for him to leave when he goes to Japan. He wanted to travel outside the country and Japan was his 1st choice. Very proud of him!!
Does your son ever go to Wilmington? It is a short distance from CL and the city has a lot to offer.
Welcome to all the new people here. Thank you for stopping by and sharing.
Tenn Navy Mom, I am doing pretty good so far. Helps a lot that we get to chat on FB a lot. Still at homebase over there so he gets a lot of computer time. LOL He's studying his little butt off right now. Wants that pin bad. Just hoping that he can get a murder board scheduled and then the real board and then get his pin. I will be one happy mommy when that happens.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Good Morning everyone!
I have been doing some "research" this morning on how Corpsman gets his/her FMF pin. Whewwwwww..........a lot of work but well deserved I must add!
My son took his exam yesterday and he is glad to have it done! So now we wait for the results....which means a long 2 months!!
Hope everyone is well today!
