Welcome to the newest member, LoveMySailorMoreno.  FireTeamLeaderwife, I totally agree with you about the job application process, my daughter has had no luck in getting a job and is getting close to graduating college.  Terry will keep you in my thoughts and hope all goes well for you and your family.  Also thank you for sharing the light and music display, it brought tears to my eyes.

Bandito, I sent you a text today, sorry I was MIA the past week.

Okay, had to go look up Seabee rates in Wickipedia,  got a better clue now.  Wonder if there would be any advantage for your BU son joining a Union to get on their work list.  Don't know if the Seabee training would qualify them or if they would have to be sponsored and go through an apprentice program.  But may be worth checking out. Does his commitment to the service get in the way of them wanting to hire him?

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on December 1, 2011 at 12:23am

Sorry...I confused you all...it's my son. He is a BU. Builder. He originally wanted SW...but no Seabee rates came up at MEPS so went in as an IT...didn't work out and he re-rated. Just glad he got Seabees. So, I don't know if he will look for work in that area (I would hope so)...I know Terry...and the thing I don't like nowadays is applying for jobs is so impersonal...and loooooong on the computer! You apply wait and get rejected all on the computer! Some companies kick you out of the system and make you start all over if you make a mistake while filling out the app! Errrrr!

I bet he's bored...I mean, I know he is glad to have a job...but how does it even compare!

Thank you all so much and yes I will kep a look out for leads too!

Fireteamleaderwife & MomofNuke:  Thank you all prayers are appreciated.  My son graduated (became a Bee) on Nov. 4th.  He is home and has his first duty weekend this weekend.  He went back to work at the movie theatre where he worked before bootcamp and is bored to death.  He is a coordinator (like an assistant manager) but it is second nature to him and no challenge, also only part-time.  He has been looking for jobs in the auto-repair industry (since he is a CM Seabee he would like to continue that education) so if anyone has a lead please let me know.  He applied at Firestone yesterday.  As we all know for every job opening there are probably 50 applications, so many people out of work.  He would like to work for the state, county or something like that but they don't seem to have anything open now...has his name on a list to be notified if testing opens up.  FIRETEAMLEADERWIFE: Is it your son or husband looking for work?  I think son...what is he looking for?....Maybe we can help each other/others here by looking out for each other.  Devin is also looking into going back to Valley College or CSUN in the upcoming semester.

Yes, I have an HR friend who does that.  Her company is in Torrance, is that distance do-able?

Fireteamleadermom what kind of work is your hubby looking for! some companies give first priority to hiring veterans
Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on November 30, 2011 at 5:43pm

Oh Terry...so glad to hear from you...I was just searching for you on the boards yesterday!

(Actually, I am sorry I have not posted in a while ladies...have read though! Looking forward to the Meet and Greet...I'm coming like this though)

So sorry that your folks are far away and that your dad had a stroke. Glad he is doing well though. I hope they find him a suitable room...can't be helping the situation at all. My dad was a POW too...Phillipines three years...I am thinking he must've rode the hellships too. I think the Phillipine camps were only two years and then they were transported...but he never talked much just said it was three years. He was a Lt.CMDR in the Navy...career...his ship was sunk...before I was born though. So I don't know much...

Are you going to be having both eyes done? I will keep you and your dad and mom in my prayers. How is your son?

I have been down sick with the stomach flu (still nauseous...ugh). If all goes well I will have an official Seabee son in a week or so. He has one more test to pass...please keep him in your prayers. Hubby will be flying out to his graduation and I was able to book him on the same flight home as they already gave my son all of his itenerary. I wanted to go...but cost. Hubby was in Iraq when our son PIR'd so we thought it best that he go to his "A" school grad.

Then he'll be home...I have to admit I'm feeling a bit at a loss. He is a reservist and has to come home to "regular" life....find a job in a jobless market...he's been gone eight months and he expressed a small concern the other day too! His recruiter said to have a plan...so I guess it is hitting home. Any advice would be much appreciated!
