I'm back from my R&R at my parents in Idaho. Found that R&R stands for "Rough and Rougher". My dad had a stroke the morning after I got there. He is doing very well for only three weeks. He'll be in the nursing home for at least four more weeks. I wanted to go back next week for a couple weeks but Mom has asked me to wait until after Christmas. I'm having cataract surgery right before Christmas so won't be able to fly until 2nd week of January. May or may not be back in time for our meet and greet on the 21st of January. I hope I will but priority will be taking care of my Mom (83) and Dad (86). Mom is looking for a more handicap accessible house and I hope I can be there to help them move. We looked at assisted living apartments but they are so small....Dad has phobia of small spaces due to being a WWII prisoner of war. The nursing home has changed his room twice due to the phobia trying to find a room that appears bigger. Hard to have them so far away...Dad is where he needs to be but I worry about Mom being alone...lucky that she has a lot of church friends and good neighbors that are helping to look out for her.
I'm grad to hear that Operation Gratitude was a wonderful experience. I'm looking forward to meeting you at the Jan 21 Meet n Greet.
Operation Gratitude was a wonderful experience. I now know a bit about being a piece of the machine. :-) But at least it was for a good cause.
Elizabeth and I met (ok,,, hubby was there too) after the morning session So nice to meet and start planning.
We will now decide on the venue for our Jan 21 Meet & Greet, drove by a lot of places on the drive home. I will start a separate discussion for how many we can expect. .....
had an awesome dinner with family tonite, and skyped our Sailor and DIL while everyone was here.... so on to the planning... tomorrow
Elizabeth, thank you for sharing information on Operation Gratitude. I was on a train since Wednesday afternoon until a couple hours ago. I'm in Washington DC & will see the sights before heading to GC to see my son Graduate from Power School.
and, just in case it is cold, I put a red cardigan over it....
I'll be wearing my son's Divisional T-shirt. Black T with 3 scary dogs on the back--- representing the RTC's
Wow, messaging you my number, we can text to find each other
Just got back from Operation Gratitude. There were lots of people there helping. The man next to me, shared that he and his family flew out from New York just to help out at Operation Gratitude making it there family vacation, they have been doing this for a few years. Wow, that is amazing. They don't check you in, so even if you haven't previously signed up and you want to help just show up. I am going to switch and work the morning shift tomorrow. B, I will try and find you. I am going to wear a red shirt.
Would love to hear how Operation Gratitude was from those who volunteered today. We will be volunteering tomorrow morning and meeting up with anyone who wants to come at Chili's in Encino, 11:30 - 12:45, Who's in?
