ELIZABETH: Congrats to your son!  I hope he will be there with you soon.  My son graduates A school this coming Friday (Nov 4th).  Still don't know if I am going to go or not.  It seems he doesn't want me to.  He said this weekend "It is kind of dumb to drive three hours for a 15 min. ceremony...it's no big deal and it isn't like I'll be able to hang out with you before or after".  I don't care that the ceremony is no big deal to him, it is a big deal to me....15 weeks of hard work to become a Seabee should be a big deal."  Maybe he just wants to be able to hang out with the friends he has made one last time and not worry about Mom.  I am waiting to see if he calls or emails me with instructions for graduation.  If not I am just going to stay home! He is going to drive from Port Hueneme to LAX and then home.  Has to report Monday as a Seabee and find out what his reserve duty will consist of.

Rosemary, I don't know how he got so lucky.  When hs recruiter asked him what his dream job would be, he said to be on one of the humanitarian hospital ships, recruiter said that would be great, but know one ever gets there dream job.  My son couldn't believe that there were three billets for that position, and when it came his time to pick one was still left, didn't halve to think to long on that one.  Mom and Dad are happy too.

Thank you Rosemary for sharing the information.

My son graduated this morning from A School in San Antonio, he is just waiting for his travel ticket to come home.  He is one of 22 that hasn't gotten there tickets, hopefully they won't keep him sitting in San Antonio to long; he was so excited about coming home, home to him is Roseville, CA.  I drove up here on Sunday so hope he gets to come here to. Then on to the Naval Hospital in San Diego he goes at least for the next two years.

So, talking about charity.... My sister has been running a donation match for Jerky for the last ten years.  She has always gone through Soldiers Angels and has traditionally sent hundreds of bags of Jerky every year.  This year she is switching to the N4M's Holiday Project.  (proud Aunt of a New Sailor)  She has finally gotten the changes made to her website and ready to proceed.    Today I added a discussion link on the Holiday Project as well as a Blog Post.

This is a group donation, not to individual sailors.  Basically donate 1/4lb (cost about $11) and she will donate 1/4 lb, plus ship to the APO address for the Holiday Project.

In addition, she always gives 15% discount when sending Jerky to military addresses.

If you are interested, please check out the N4M Holiday Project.  Let me know what you think, she has awesome Jerky.

I am going to commit to 11/26 for Operation Gratitude, but that is the only one that I will be able to make.  Will sign up tomorrow.

Nite, Nite,

I am so glad that so many of us will be volunteering for Operation Gratitude.  For those of you that have never done it before you will find it very rewarding.  I usually like to do assembly days but in the morning before the building gets too hot.  Dress in your comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and comfortable shoes.  I am having cataract surgery on Nov. 28th so I don't know if I will make any of the dates you have...it will depend on what the doctor allows me to do.  Go to a class this Tuesday to learn about after care.  I also don't know how well I will be able to see (almost anything would be better than it is now).  If I don't get to join you then I hope to see you at later functions and on Jan. 21st.  Post how you feel after your first experience with Operation Gratitude.
