congrats BtownSandy!  and they are so smart to get that first deployment underway before getting married!  it's so hard.

My sailor is engaged! He's a sailor as well. They are at least going to hold off on getting married until after they have both deployed for the first time. They wanna make sure that they will be able to get through being away from each other for long periods.

you can put her address on facebook.  you can't put places, dates, etc.  look on facebook and see if the ship has a facebook page.  when they post something, you can too.  due to OPSEC rules you can post that they will port in say england on feb 7.  once the ship posts info it's then public knowledge.

Comment by shuga on February 6, 2012 at 11:36pm

Thanks Duhhuh. Another question, she wants me to post her address on face book, can we do that, I thought I read somewhere that when they are on deployment we are not allowed to post that info.

shuga,

you need a special card, ship-to-shore.  regular phone cards will not work from the ship.

they can be purchased at the nex either on the ship or on a base.

here's the link to buy them online (you'll need to set up an account using your daughters info)  i'm also going to send you a PM.

https://shop.aafes.com/shop/Login.aspx?ReturnURL=https://shop.aafes...

once you set up an account search for ship-to-shore phone card
