Welcome to all Anticipating PIR 10/7/2011!!

This group is for those with loved ones who had PIR on 10/07/2011. (PIR is short for Pass-in-Review and just means graduate from Boot Camp.)

It was an amazing ceremony, an amazing opportunity to see our Sailors perform and participate as an entire group, amazing to hear that wonderful Liberty call and completely overwhelming to get those long awaited hugs.

It is our desire that this Group will provide the information, encouragement, and support you need while your loved one continues their Navy Journey. We are hoping you will continue to come back and update everyone on that journey and continue to seek support and encouragement from friends you have already made here.

Enjoy your time here and feel free to Comment and join in the Discussions. Be sure to check out the information in the "Pages" section to the right. This is information that will be of interest to all Members.  (You will need to click on "View All" to see all of them.)

Please review the Community Guidelines and keep OPSEC in mind when you post. If you would not want an enemy to know something, then do not post it here because this is NOT a secure site and the enemy lurks. Please do not post your Sailor's last name and NEVER his/her full name. Also do not use your full name, especially if your last name is the same as your Sailor's. If your Sailor provides specific information about events that will occur, please keep that to yourself and do not post the day/time on here since this information may be sensitive and is not to be shared.

my boyfriend left for bootcamp on August 11. He called me yesterday and told me he that he is graduting on Oct. 7th. I still have not got his form letter. It has been almost 2 weeks since he left. I do not have his address to send him letters. When should i be getting his form letter?

diannep, the new option is different. The old PRIVATE thing had to be set at the beginning and irreversible. The new one can be changed at will. (I have done this) This is not connected to MEMBERSHIP to the group.  Here's what the new settings page has:

PRIVACY SETTINGS

   What can non-members see?

      O  Everything (public)

      O  Group Information only (private)

MEMBERS:

[  ]  Approve all new members

    Who can join this group?

      [  ]  Anyone

      [  ]  Only invited members

The creator should not check to "Approve all new members"  and can check "Anyone" on Who can join this group?  Non members will see name and description. Members see everything. What would be the benefit of making the private?  I believe during BattleStations, it would be good to have the comments not visible to anyone not a member.

BunkerQB:  We have found that PRIVATE thing on the PIR groups to be horrible.  On one group, the creator mistakenly made it private.  She couldn't reverse it...ladies were turned off by not getting accepted quickly and the group stayed small.  I do not recommend the private option for any PIR groups.

Two new features that NING (the social networking platform on which N4M is based) made available:

1. PAGES:  I see you have taken advantage of that already. Bravo to KathyMmom.

2. The contents of this group can be set to PRIVATE.  Name and the description of the group is visible to all but the comments are visible only to the members of the group. Obviously, there are pros and cons for each  KathyMmoms can change this by going to Options, Edit Group and Privacy Setting. In the old days, this option was only available when the group was created with no option to change the status afterwards.

Good morning everyone. I am joining this group temporarily just to give you some information that may help newbies navigate this site.

Keep the following in mind whenever you log on:

1. Check your personal page - click the "MY PAGE" tab on menu bar above on a regular basis.  On your personal page, on the left just underneath you profile photo, you'll the words "Blog Posts" (the number of blogs you have started), "Discussions" (the number discussions you have commented on), "Event" (the number of Events you have RSVPed for), "Groups" (the number of groups you belong to) etc. you can access your groups,  In the middle section, you'll find activities on groups you started and comments other members have left for you.

2. Check your SIGN IN/SIGN OUT box on the upper right. This a always visible on your screen to provide quick access to check your messages, friend requests and access settings (the place to go to change your USERNAME, password, profile and email settings).

3. To go to your groups, click "GROUPS" tab, then "My Groups" (in small letters on left) or access from your own page.

4. If you are getting way too many email notifications, just click "Stop Following" wherever you see it. That will start to notifications. Be careful if you use Setting/Email to control the notifications; otherwise, you won't get any and won't know if someone has sent your a friends request or if there is an important message from one of your group(s). Remember the email notifications are just that, if you get an email notification and part of a message is visible, you can't reply to that message by replying to the email notifcation. You have to log on the Navy For Moms, then click on INBOX.  A link is normally provided with you notification.

5.  For your convenience, we have other reference material in an area that is easy to. Go to New Moms Stop Here and look at the PAGES (there are 10). You'll find Boot Camp videos, link to RTC, acronyms and more.

6.  SEARCH function. This should be your best friend. You can find just anything if you use this function (for searching for members, groups, discussions or blogs).

You have some wonderful experienced moms helping you. Good luck everyone. Be sure to come back let everyone know how everything went.

After PIR, you don't have to start an ALUMNI group - KathyMmom can simply add the word "ALUMNI" to the NAME of the group (without changing the internet address).  Everything stays intact and we eliminate duplications.

Good Morning everyone!  Just a quick note to ask that you check all discussions before you add an new one - if you look just to the right of the 'Add a Discussion' link, there is a 'View All' link.  We have two pages of discussions right now, and you might miss the one you are looking for if you don't use the view all.  If I remove your discussion because it is redundant, please forgive me, but I want to keep everyone together rather than split out all over the place.
