Welcome to all Anticipating PIR 10/7/2011!!

This group is for those with loved ones who had PIR on 10/07/2011. (PIR is short for Pass-in-Review and just means graduate from Boot Camp.)

It was an amazing ceremony, an amazing opportunity to see our Sailors perform and participate as an entire group, amazing to hear that wonderful Liberty call and completely overwhelming to get those long awaited hugs.

It is our desire that this Group will provide the information, encouragement, and support you need while your loved one continues their Navy Journey. We are hoping you will continue to come back and update everyone on that journey and continue to seek support and encouragement from friends you have already made here.

Enjoy your time here and feel free to Comment and join in the Discussions. Be sure to check out the information in the "Pages" section to the right. This is information that will be of interest to all Members.  (You will need to click on "View All" to see all of them.)

Please review the Community Guidelines and keep OPSEC in mind when you post. If you would not want an enemy to know something, then do not post it here because this is NOT a secure site and the enemy lurks. Please do not post your Sailor's last name and NEVER his/her full name. Also do not use your full name, especially if your last name is the same as your Sailor's. If your Sailor provides specific information about events that will occur, please keep that to yourself and do not post the day/time on here since this information may be sensitive and is not to be shared.

Hi All.  I joined this group for my son-in-law.  My daughter is also at BC her PIR is 9/16.  I am wishing the best for him!

Hi Bucksmom, so glad you are here. I know it will be a little easier for you this time since you have been through it before. And I am grateful for all the kind words about the ribbons I make for everyone to wear to PIR. Your group was a fantastic PIR group and i am still friends with many of them on facebook and talk to them on a weekly basis. I hope you sailor is doing well :-)

My husband just walked in and said  "oh no, you're not on THERE again are you?"  haha, he remembers the first 8 weeks with our son.  I lived on this site with my navy moms:)

Wow - I love the fact that there are so many supportive women (and men!) here.  We told our son that he should let us know if anybody in his div isn't getting any mail and we will take care of that.  If I hear from him - I will let the rest of you know and if anybody is interested, we can fill up the mailboxes in GL!

On a more serious note  - Bucksmom makes a great point, that is repeated all over the N4M site.  Please please be extremely careful about exposing pictures, names, even specific locations of your homes.  I work in the identity and security world of technology and there are some very nasty things that go on in this world.  In fact, I encourage everyone to post an icon as their picture rather than a picture of themselves, or any member of the family - except perhaps your pet.  :-)   Most likely - nothing will happen, but you never know.  I may be a new Navy mom (even though I am an old Navy Brat!), but I live and breathe technology every day, and I see what can happen.  Please be careful with any personal information.

Welcome Bucksmom! Glad you are here! For YOUR future son...and to help out! Each of us goes throught the "same" BC but we all experience it in a different way don't we?!

We had a Sailor in our PIR group! His GF was going through BC two years to the date that he went through BC. He even came to the Meet & Greet!

Hi everybody.  I have been where you are now.  My son PIR'd March 4th but I joined this group as well because my future son-in-law is there now.  Just found out today he is Div947 so we are super excited about that (the 900 divisions are the staff/performing divisions).  I recognize a few names, Dianne and Lala :).  I've seen Lala's PIR ribbons and they are very nice.  Definiately check them out!  I wouldn't consider myself a "veteran" but I will help and answer whatever questions I can.  Mostly, I'm just missing my SR (Seaman Recruit) just like the rest of you.  Yes, I call him MY son, even though they are not married yet.  He did a fine job of wiggling his way right into my heart and I miss him just like I missed my own son when he left.  My daughter will be joining this group as soon as she knows its going, she's been watching and waiting, as well as his mom.  My daughter and her SR will be getting married December 30th while he is home on Christmas leave.  I don't know if it's been mentioned yet but while your SR is in BC (boot camp) please try to keep from using his/her name and photo.  Because this is a Navy sponsored site and open to the public you will not want to draw any attention to them, help them "fly  under the radar" so to speak.  I was so fortunate to have a great group of Mom's/wives/girlfriends and even one Dad in my group.  We still keep in touch through facebook even though our Sailors have gone in different directions.  This is a great venue to find others that are going through what you are and you will find it to be your lifeline over the next 8 weeks and beyond.  Trust me, people who are not in our shoes just don't get it.   Also, if you can make it happen, do whatever you can to attend PIR, it's an amazing experience and you will swell with pride when you see your Sailor for the first time in 8 weeks, I know I did, my heart did a summersault when I saw my son, it still gives me goosebumps.  Right now it seems like a lifetime away but believe me, when all is said and done, it really does go by quite fast.  I know I rambled quite a bit, I was just excited to see the group finally formed and I had so much I wanted to share.  I look forward to getting to know all of you over the next 8 weeks and hopefully meeting many of you at the Meet and Greet which is held the night before PIR.

KathyMmom, I am so grateful that you started the group.  I know that the other seasoned moms will jump in and help as well.  I'm glad I could help with the Pages--it wasn't too hard to copy and paste.

LOVE the pik, KathyM:  I had just "saved" that one the other day...because that captures....THE MOMENT!  The GOOSEBUMP moment...I saved the other one of them starting to march in also...I still get goosebumps just thinking of it when my son was there!

Great to see you here, fireteam!

And yes - I uploaded a new picture.  To me, it epitomizes my feelings of anticipation.  This group is coming in for graduation – I can’t wait to see the smiling faces of our Sailors!
