This group is for those with loved ones who had PIR on 10/07/2011. (PIR is short for Pass-in-Review and just means graduate from Boot Camp.)
It was an amazing ceremony, an amazing opportunity to see our Sailors perform and participate as an entire group, amazing to hear that wonderful Liberty call and completely overwhelming to get those long awaited hugs.
It is our desire that this Group will provide the information, encouragement, and support you need while your loved one continues their Navy Journey. We are hoping you will continue to come back and update everyone on that journey and continue to seek support and encouragement from friends you have already made here.
Enjoy your time here and feel free to Comment and join in the Discussions. Be sure to check out the information in the "Pages" section to the right. This is information that will be of interest to all Members. (You will need to click on "View All" to see all of them.)
Please review the Community Guidelines and keep OPSEC in mind when you post. If you would not want an enemy to know something, then do not post it here because this is NOT a secure site and the enemy lurks. Please do not post your Sailor's last name and NEVER his/her full name. Also do not use your full name, especially if your last name is the same as your Sailor's. If your Sailor provides specific information about events that will occur, please keep that to yourself and do not post the day/time on here since this information may be sensitive and is not to be shared.

Oh and just in case (I've seen this questions so I am NOT directing it at anyone in particular) no signs at PIR please. It blocks peoples view and it is a solemn occassion like Bunker said...joyous but solemn.
If your worried that you won't "find" your Sailor...you will. Some try to plan a spot don't know if that has worked out...not too many spots and if everyone says, "meet me at the bathroom" then you'd have a sea of them over there...(boy I am just full of puns right now...no comments on what I am full of!)
Binos help...uh, I forgot mine...then forgot to buy some when I went to WM the night before.
There are markers where the Divisions will be standing in formation for PIR set up before the ceremony. That's so you know wheer to sit...they take them away for the ceremony.
Like this:
See the sunlight to the left? That's the big door where the divisions march in. Then the markers start with the first division and then go on down the line. I can't remember if the performing was at the end or in the middle though...never made it down that far in the hall! Our TG started with 179 and we were 180.
See the nice Sailors...these are honor graduates. They stand here before the ceremony so their families get to see their nice faces! They also ran off every now and the to assist where needed. See the one on the left? He was the honor graduate. Top in class...Woo-Hoo!
Those in wheel chairs sat right in front of the bleachers where their divisions were...I believe chairs were brought for a family member to sit with them.
Okay...I've blabbed long enough...just thought I'd share...having PIR memories I guess!
For the kiddies...they sell Sailor hats for $5 at PIR. They'll want to wear mommies or daddies but I don't believe they are allowed too :-(. Smart move by the Navy to make those available...I have seen some cute, cute Sailor outfits and these "topped" it off...pun intended!
Now...why am I the only one who was HOT at PIR?! Geez, I'm always backwards!
I DID bring a poncho (to sit on for comfort or wrap up in) just in case!
We all wore our nicest blue jeans and I realized we all had red shirts so we wore those...Sailor was in white. So it worked for me for pics! I had R,W,B pedicure! That was for me!
I think the ladies are just elaborating on the fact that there is no dress code...it's your choice what you wear. I was going to get new but then time ran out. I felt kinda bad...but then thought we'd look "familiar', like home, and that gave me peace!
lemon...the video...have to show hubby!
Oh and don't set anything down on the bleachers that could fall through...you'll never get it back apparantly. (What I've heard) The bleacher "floors" are enclosed but underneath your seats are foot long or so openings...that are just wide enough for today's thin cell phones and cameras to fall through. I had everything on a leash and carabiners on my purse that I hooked them too!
Hey that reminds me...dianne you asked what a carabiner was a while ago. They're used for ropes in climbing, repelling...you probably seen them in the stores in all kinds of shapes for fun for your keys and such (the climbing ones have a screw in locking mechanism)
Above all, be yourself.
My sailor will be in town for 13 days. He just finished his long 6 months deployment aboard a submarine. We haven't seen him since Dec '10.
Very soon - PIR will be a distant memory - soak it in and don't forget to give yourself a pat on the back for being good moms - what you'll see is because you have made the extra effort since the day he/she was born.
With this economy, we are all saving a little here and a little there. Moms, do not go out and buy a new outfit for this occasion. The suit my husband had on was 15 years old. The lucky stiff - he could still fit into it. My outfit was 5 years old. Navy skirt w a matching sweater set. Be comfortable. Be warm. Dress more conservatively - like you are going to church. Your sailors have worked hard to graduate. While it is a celebration, it is also a solemn occasion. Therefore, my family's rule is to dress for the occasion and dress up rather than down. But this does not mean expensive. If you think you will make good use of the outfit for future events (like a job interview or a wedding) then buy something that is classic and something basic so you can add pieces. Don't hesitate to go to the local second hard stores for high end stuff - you'll be surprised at what you'll find.
But first go through your closet and try some stuff on. Maybe get a new scarf or a piece of jewelry to give it a new look. Or change the buttons. If you are handy with a sewing machine, make some alteration - for example, nobody wears big shoulder pads anymore - have a jacket w football pads - take it out - I did that and it changes the look considerably. Remember when we all wore our skirts down to the ankle - mid calf is more up to date. Since it'll be October - darker hose and shoes. BTW, do not wear brand new shoes.
Save your money for grad photos, dvds, the bound book.
